Bedroom Looks for 2017

It’s that time of year again when we start investigating the interior design trends we expect to see in the new year – we are particularly interested in bedroom looks for 2017 so we can ensure that the bedding, bedroom furniture and accessories we offer are just what you are looking for!

Here we’ll take a look at the various styles and colour palettes projected to be influential next year:

Colour Palettes for 2017

The Dulux Colour Forecast and Pantone Spring 2017 Report are fascinating reading – outlining the colour and style combinations that interior designers, and those in fashion, will be referencing in 2017. Dulux have divided their suggestions into four inspiring collections:

Entwine
The ‘Entwine’ look is a vibrant mix of modernity and traditional African and Asian crafts, shapes and textures. The colour palette combines earthy burnt sienna and terracotta, with the botanical hues of sage and chartreuse. Highlights of cobalt blue and soft mauve complete the look.

Take a look at our Mandalay, Samarkand and Kyoto beds photographed above – modern designs inspired by travels to India and the Orient – they perfectly represent the ‘Entwine’ look. The Entwine colour palette can be found in many of our bedding choices too – from the sage green bedspreads: Eden Sage and Reversible Organic Cotton Quilt, to the rich warm tones of our duvet covers Kalamkari Gold & Russet Zari. Pantone colours Flame, Kale and Niagara fit beautifully within the ‘Entwine’ collection.

Construct

The Construct look is inspired by brutalist architecture – combining a reverence for authentic natural materials (solid wood and stone) with metallic finishes and raw concrete. The major colours are midnight blue and grey in a range of tones. Accent shades are in rust, gold, platinum and copper.

We share a love of natural materials and bold, simple shapes – our collection of solid wood beds include a range of styles and designs, but all share a purity of design. Our range of four-posters – the Orchid, Oasis and Cube beds – have strong, modern shapes perfect for a luxury take on the Industrial loft look, while our upholstered beds allow you to create a softer, relaxing bedroom while incorporating the colours and materials of this style.

Sentience

The colour palette for ‘Sentience’ is made up of soft, subtle tones – taupe, blush, sage, silver grey and chocolate brown – with a dash of vibrant chartreuse. Sentience is almost a bringing together of ‘Entwine’ & ‘Construct’ – the soft earthy colours of Entwine over the deep neutrals and natural materials of Construct. A ‘Sentience’ inspired scheme should be soothing and restorative – perfect for a bedroom.

An easy way to incorporate this look within your bedroom scheme is to choose bedding in a mix of soft, subtle shades. Our washed linen bedding in charcoal, dove grey and duck-egg blue with a soft, velvet look blanket (try silver, slate or taupe, dusty rose or chartreuse) will look sophisticated and calming. Our range of incredibly soft brushed cotton bedding is another good choice – it is in a soft grey marl cotton with a lime coloured linen edging, add a grey ruched bedspread for extra warmth on cold winter nights.

Chroma

Chroma is all about black and white with a pop of colour – as though inspired by a Roy Lichtenstein pop art print! Simple black or white furniture and accessories with a single feature wall in red, turquoise, golden yellow or coral would make the perfect ‘Chroma’ bedroom.

Take a look at our collection of black furniture – the Black Orchid bed, Black Malabar bed and the black Tripod table from Ethnicraft – to see how we can help you follow this trend. Please note any of our beds can be lacquered black if you wish – just contact us on 0114 272 1984 to find out more.
Dress your black bed with monochrome bedding (you’ll find lots of options within our collection of cotton and linen bedding) and add a splash of colour – with a brightly coloured woollen throw or a salmon Shanti quilt.

Trends for 2017

Smitten by Nature

This is the trend for us – as makers of solid wood furniture we already follow this look! Natural materials such as solid timber, stone, cotton and wool are mixed with raw concrete to give this style a contemporary edge. Texture is a big part of this trend – from rumpled, washed linen bedding with loosely knitted woollen throws, to deep pile rugs in wool and woven leather mats.

Nordic Style

This trend continues from 2016 – our love of Scandinavian inspired design is showing no sign of wavering. The colour palette of cool neutrals – charcoal, ivory and silver grey – with flashes of subtle colours suits our lighting and climate perfectly. The ‘Construct’ colour palette is perfect for this trend.

Our contemporary bed collection suits this look – understated designs and a purity of style – from the low Nevada bed to the upholstered Arran Bed we have a model to suit. Complete the scheme with modern solid oak bedroom furniture from Ethnicraft or the Black Lotus Cube collection. Take a look at our Inspiration Page – Scandinavian Style for more ideas.

Roaring Metallics

The 1920’s have inspired a number of designers, this influence combined with our love of metallics – can be seen in everything from cocktail shakers and cabinets to wallpaper and fabrics. We love a hint of gold or copper and have used rich embroidered details on our exclusive Zari bedding. The Zari duvet in black, deep teal or warm russet has a band of gold or copper embroidery, The Hyderabad duvet covers are available in purple or king-fisher blue.

If you prefer cool colours – take a look at our range of silver grey bedding – from silver grey sateen stripe bedding and luxury, 1000 thread count, platinum grey bedding to our silver wolf faux fur throws. They look amazing on our classic upholstered beds – the Arran bed with a buttoned headboard or the Shetland with a plain upholstered headboard.

We also have a range of home-wares in copper or brass – the addition of a metallic photo-frame on your bedside table is a easy, inexpensive way to incorporate this look.
