Here we’ll take a look at how to create a luxurious, cosy bedroom with dark and moody colours. From black beds and inky wall colours to dark coloured bedding and cushions (perfect if you’re a little less committed to this look!) – here you’ll find lots of ways to create a wonderfully stylish, moody bedroom.

Decor

The use of black, inky blue and deep charcoal paints and fabrics can result in a warm and cosy feeling bedroom, particularly in winter as the cold colour cast is dispelled by these deeper shades. Various styles can be achieved using dark colours – a Scandinavian look using a monchrome colour palette is stylish and fresh, deep inky blues look good with pale woods (oak, maple and ash) for a modern English look, while deep charcoal and dark espresso brown add warmth to a contemporary scheme and suit walnut and cherry timber furniture. If you like colour too much to give it up completely – try deep berry tones or a very dark green – these shades will work well with upholstered beds or more traditional interior design styles.
If you are looking for a subtle collection of paint colours with depth – try: Little Greene or Farrow & Ball.

The result – a snug haven, perfect for hibernating in!

Furniture

It might be that you are looking for accessories, bedding and paint in dark colours, but would like to use wooden bedroom furniture with a natural finish (no problem there – they look great together!) However if you do want your wooden bed stained a dark colour – we are happy to oblige. We offer a ‘wenge’ stain on pine as standard – this is a very dark espresso brown colour – as can be seen on the Kumo bed above, but we have also stained our hardwood beds in both wenge and an almost matte, black finish on request. Take a look at our Black Malabar bed  or Black Orchid 4 Poster – to see images of a solid oak bed stained black to great effect. Just give us a call and we can quote for this finish and provide you with samples of the black or wenge stain, over pine or any of our hardwoods, on any of our bed designs.

Another combination you may like to use is a stained black frame but with a natural finish to the headboard panel – the Cube bed and bedside tables above are shown with an oak frame stained black, but the drawer fronts and headboard are in natural zebrano wood. The reverse of that choice is illustrated with our Koo bed – a natural oak bed frame is complemented by a dark grey lacquered headboard. We can offer a painted headboard option with our Koo, Tao and Sol bed styles, available in any Farrow & Ball or RAL colour.

Bedding

We offer a wide range of bedding in deep, dark colours. We have washed linen bedding in charcoal, luxury 1000 thread count bedding in dark platinum grey and Egyptian cotton bedding in a dark, cool smoke grey.  If you are looking for something more decorative than our classic plain bedding – take a look at the black Zari duvet cover, made using fine black cotton with a gold brocade detail or the organic silk Pha-Tung duvet cover in Indigo. We also have a range of bedspreads and throws in deep colours, including the Zari quilt in Blackberry and the Kilnsey Bronte Shetland Wool Throw in charcoal and caramel.
