Now that the hectic festive season is over it’s the perfect time to take a look at the guest bedroom and look at ways to update it or make it even more welcoming!
Here you can find a few suggestions for adding a little boutique hotel style to your spare room (then your only problem will be getting your guests to leave!)

1. A relaxing colour scheme. A neutral, calm and restful colour-scheme is a great choice for a guest bedroom. Taupe, silver grey or stone are a little more forgiving than white if you want to keep redecorating down to a minimum. These shades are also a perfect backdrop for accents in bolder shades. Take some inspiration from boutique hotel interior design – mrandmrssmith.com is a great way to see inside some beautiful hotels for free (and you can even book a holiday at the same time!)

2. Dressing the bed. There is nothing nicer than to be treated to some luxury cotton bedding – your guests are bound to appreciate it! Good quality, easy to clean bedding doesn’t have to cost the earth – take a look at our seersucker bedding for example.
As your guests’ preferences, and the weather, will vary – ensure you have a variety of layers that can be built up to suit. A low-medium tog duvet, plus a lightly quilted bedspread and a wool throw should cover every warmth requirement.

under-bed drawers can be made to match the wood of your bed frame

3. A little storage. Some storage space exclusively for guest use is a real treat. But don’t worry if you don’t have a lots of space – most guests only stay a few days – so a couple of hooks on the wall (or the back of the door) with some stylish hangers, and a bedside table with a drawer or two, should be enough. Take a look at some under-bed drawers if you need somewhere to store additional bedding.

4. Finishing touches. A stack of freshly laundered towels, a carafe of water and some tumblers, even a small bunch of fresh flowers all add to that sense of being pampered. If you’re feeling really generous try adding a small bowl of fresh fruit or tasty snacks, a few travel size toiletries and guest soaps, a scented candle and a stack of magazines.
