At Natural Bed Company we love the drama and individuality of our solid ash beds. Ash is a hardwood, a light colour timber with a cream cast that usually shows a strong figure in the grain. Some darker areas of sapwood can occur. The chevron pattern to the ash Hoxton headboard pictured below highlights the variations in this stunning timber. Ash may become a warmer colour over time as the wood ages.

Our hardwoods – ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut and beech are all from the USA or northern Europe. Our ash wood has come from the eastern coastal forests of the USA. American hardwoods come from well-managed, sustainable forests managed under strict guidelines from Federal Government and the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). Therefore we, and you, can be confident the timber supplied is sustainable. Well managed logging is beneficial for the environment. The trees are logged when they are mature, but before they start to die. New trees are planted in their place and the cycle continues.

Solid Ash

Ash wood is a great choice if you are looking for a timber with a vibrant grain but a pale to mid tone. This look very much suits a rustic style. Rustic luxe is a popular bedroom style, inspired by beautiful hotel rooms in exotic locations. Here, a simple modernity is softened by natural, yet high quality materials such as solid wood, natural stone and pure linen.

The Camden & Hoxton as Ash Beds

The Camden bed is a beautiful, handmade, solid wood bed with shaped legs and soft curves to the edges. The Hoxton has the same elegant frame, but with a very special headboard panel. Slender panels of timber are used to create a chevron pattern which draws attention to the variations in grain and hue. These bed designs will suit many bedroom styles. The attention to detail and the handcrafted quality of these designs will give any interior a luxurious feel. If you want to create a rustic luxe style bedroom using these beds we recommend choosing simple, natural bedding. We have used the pure cotton Chambray Stripe Cotton Bedding and Organic Brown Melange bedding. The luxurious chambray stripe cotton bedding is in ivory with a pattern of woven (not just printed) fine black lines in wide bands. This pure cotton bedding has a linen-look, luxurious yet relaxed texture – it’s cool, light-weight, soft and breathable. The organic cotton bed linen, in a fashionable cool brown melange, is a strong, long-lasting organic cotton that is soft to the touch and softens further with use and washing. Again the look achieved is one of relaxed luxury, just add a chunky knitted throw or faux fur bedspread in the winter months.

The Nevada and Sonora as Ash Beds

Our Nevada and Sonora beds have been very popular in solid as. The simplicity of the design shows off the variations in the timber beautifully. The Nevada is a low bed with a low headboard. The Sonora bed, like the Nevada, has short legs – but it has a much taller headboard panel than the Nevada (if you like a tall stack of pillows – this is the bed for you!) The ideal bedside table for these beds is the low Cube table, made at our wokshops in Sheffield we can make this table in any of our timbers. The Cube tables are available in three heights and have a slim drawer to help stowe away any clutter.

In keeping with a rustic luxe style we have dressed the Nevada and Sonora beds in pure linen bedding and stonewashed cotton. Linen bedding has a lovely texture that looks as good rumpled and relaxed as it does freshly ironed! The modern, white ruffle bedding is in soft washed cotton – simple and elegant. Made in Portugal from 200-thread-count tumbled washed cotton. This bedding has an incredibly soft handle and is wonderfully easy to care for. What’s more, with a lovely ruffle edge detail on 3 sides of the duvet cover and around the pillowcases. We think this timeless bed linen will give your bedroom a relaxed and romantic touch. Complete the look with a sheepskin throw or the soft Andas throw and cushions.

The Ki and Kulu as Ash Beds

The Kulu is a low, modern platform bed – the Ki bed is a further development of the Kulu designed in response to a customer enquiry. The Ki is like the Kulu design but without the wide headboard panel so it it’s perfect for smaller bedrooms. This bed features a wide headboard, available with or without fixed side tables. Additionally, the deep footboard panel make a great canvas for a broad sweep of natural ash. Although the Ki is without the headboard panel the bold geometry of the footboard panel again draws attention to the timber.

These modern platform style beds suit many styles, from ‘New York Loft’ to ‘Rustic Luxe’. Just select the bedding and accessories to best suit the style you want. Again we’ve used linen bedding for a minimal yet relaxed look. The dove grey linen is a classic neautral while the blue linen bedding is a fresh look – perfect for spring/summer.
