What can we (and our homes) expect in the new year? Here we’ll take a look at the three of the interior design trends you can expect to see in 2014…

Eco-Industrial

The strong trend of 2013 – industrial modern – will continue in to 2014, but with a twist! The industrial look will have an ‘eco’ element with the use of natural materials – solid timber and natural stone. This ties in with the Dulux colour trend ‘Precious Elementals’ – a colour palette inspired by nature, that works with modern design. The colour range include neutrals, chocolate brown, a range of greys running into cool powdery blues. Solid ash, oak and walnut work well with these colours. Pair your solid wood bed with a stone floor, cowhide rug, industrial lighting, linen bedding and wall in an inky grey tone.
Take a look at the Ocean Bed, Oasis Four-Poster and Tibet beds – chunky timber sections and solid, simple shapes define these models.

Modern Nomad

This style looks to the East, inspired by Indian, African and Moroccan style. This is an updated, relaxed version of the look though, simpler shapes and a few select pieces take the place of lots of decoration and detail. The colours for this design trend are as warm as the countries that inspire the look – gold, tan, burnt umber and stone, with flashes of jewel bright accents in hot pink, purple, cobalt blue and acid yellow.
Take a look at the Samarkand bed in stained wenge tulip wood, the Togo and Mandalay beds. Add a Mango Zari duvet cover, or Hyderabad duvet cover in kingfisher, amethyst or lime. Look for authentic Indian crafts at Bringing It All Back Home.

Retro Futurist

This look is inspired by a 1950’s vision of the future. Influenced by the Eames’s furniture and textiles as updated by Orla Kiely. The colours are bright but with softer, slightly muddier element – olive, mustard and teal. This look was present last year and will continue with deeper, richer colours. Walnut and cherry work well with this look, walnut can look great with warm tones (olive, coral or burnt orange) while cooler tones make a great contrast to cherry wood (teal, inky indigo or silver grey). Strong shapes suit this look; try the Cochin or Zanskar beds. Complement these beds with Ethiopia duvet sets in blue or grey, the Bronte multi-colour spot throw will add some colour and fun!
