About Our Maple Wood:

maple timber

The eastern coastal forests of the USA and Canada are the source of our maple timber.
Maple is a very pale, blonde wood with a smooth grain and a contemporary appearance. Over time it can deepen to a richer, more golden shade. As with any wood, there are variations in grain and tone: part of the beauty of a natural product.

If you are looking to match your maple bed with current furniture please request a timber sample from us, but please note that wood samples should be taken as indicative of the wood and finish – it is not possible to guarantee an exact colour match. We always recommend that, where possible, if you are ordering a number of items from us for the same room – that you order the items together (e.g. order your maple bed and bedside tables together). This way our makers can ensure they match each other well, and any changes in colour over time will coincide.

About Our Timbers:

At Natural Bed Company, for our wooden beds, we only use timber from sustainable sources and never use endangered tropical hardwoods. All our timber is from a legally certified source and purchased under the EUTR (European Union Timber Regulation). Our pine is from Scandinavia and our hardwoods – ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut and beech are from the USA or northern Europe.

Caring for Maple Furniture:

Unless otherwise specified, our maple beds are finished in a durable clear soft satin (low sheen) lacquer. This provides an easy to care for and durable finish that doesn’t compromise the natural beauty of the wood grain. We suggest dusting your maple bed with a dry, soft cloth.

Solid woods may expand and shrink slightly with differences in temperature and humidity. Take care not place your furniture next to radiators or anywhere subject to any excessive changes in temperature or moisture content. If you are using our bedside tables – we recommend that all kitchenware and beverages should be placed on mats and any spillages should be wiped up immediately. Solid maple furniture may be subject to rough grain protruding from previously smooth surfaces, this is usually caused by humid conditions or a spillage, and is indicative of water being absorbed into the wood and causing the grain to swell.

Cleaning: To clean wipe with a slightly damp cloth and immediately buff with a dry cloth. In the event of more stubborn marks, a solution of mild detergent should be used on the cloth. Silicone based polishes should not be used on the wood as they can build up and leave a sticky residue on the surface.
