During the holiday season we often have family and friends to stay, so we thought we’d take a look at preparing your guest bedroom for visitors in 4 easy steps:

Bedroom storage
Take a look at the storage available for your guests – most guests only stay for a day or two, so a couple of drawers and a hanging rail should be more than adequate for their needs. A bedside unit is also useful – a handy resting place for a glass of water or a bedside table. The Damien bedside table is a great choice – the top is removable and works as a tray for breakfast or drinks.
If space is tight – it consider getting a bedside table with integrated storage so you won’t necessarily need an additional chest of drawers. If this is what you’re looking for take a look at the the Cube 2 Drawer Bedside or the Ethnicraft Madra or Ligna Bedside units.

We have a range of high quality, solid wood storage solutions perfect for a guest bedroom. Take a look at our Black Lotus collection of solid oak chests of drawers – we have two styles available: Shaker or Cube. The Shaker inspired collection includes a 2-drawer bedside unit, 3, drawer chest, 6-drawer chest/sideboard and a tall 5-drawer tall-boy. The Cube collection includes a wide range of units including end-of-bed storage, bedside units, chests and a tall-boy.

For hanging storage – perfect for coats, dresses etc take a look at our stylish wooden rail. The rail has a lower shelf – a great place for storing a stack of guest towels, an extra quilt or for guests to keep their shoes and slippers.

Prepare your bed
Whether you have a guest bed or use a futon sofa-bed for guests over the holidays – preparing for visitors is the ideal opportunity to do a little housekeeping where your mattress is concerned. Flip or turn the mattress on your guest bed (depending on the mattress type and manufacturers recommendations) and leave it to air. If using a futon mattress – roll it and flip it (take a look at our Blog – Looking After Your Futon Mattress for further advice) and again leave it to air.

In the mean-time take a look at your duvet and pillows – they may just need to be plumped up and aired, or professionally washed or possibly even replaced. If you need a new pair of pillows or a duvet – we have a wide range to choose from – just order soon to ensure we can get your order to you for Christmas. We also offer mattress protectors to give your mattress a refresh and aid its longevity.

Dress the bed
When having guests to stay it’s important to ensure that they are as comfortable as can be – that means soft and cosy bedding, with an extra quilt available in case they get cold. We have a wide range of soft cotton and linen bedding in a range of styles and prices – from classic Egyptian cotton bedding (great value, soft and durable) to luxury 1000 thread count cotton bedding or washed linen bedding. For the ultimate in ‘cosy’ take a look at the brushed cotton bedding in grey (with a lime linen edge detail).

We have a huge range of quilts too, a great extra layer for cooler nights. Just fold a quilt over the end of the bed – your guest can then decide if they will need to use it or not. A soft wool or faux fur throw is an alternative option and can be handy to use as a shawl too. If you really want to pamper your guests leave a hot-water bottle for them to use – we offer stylish, affordable Meraki hot-water bottles with simple cotton covers or hot-water bottles with soft faux fur covers.

Guest Bedroom Accessories
The finishing touches can make all the difference and turn your guests’ stay into a luxury experience! A stack of fresh fluffy towels on the bed and some well selected toiletries is a great way to pamper your visitors. We have a wide range of stylish towels including soft cotton towels from Meraki and our Danish Towels in a range of sophisticated tones. Complete the contemporary look with Meraki toiletries including hand wash, soap, shower gel and body lotion.

Ensure your guest room feels fresh and well-loved with the addition of a luxury scented candle or diffuser – diffusers are great for guest rooms as they continually release a subtle scent ensuring a rarely used room doesn’t ever smell musty. Take a look at our collection of toiletries, diffusers and scented candles for ideas.
