Our Walnut:

walnut timber

We source our American black walnut from the eastern coastal forests of the USA and Canada.
Walnut has a dramatic grain in tones of rich chocolate with areas of paler sapwood. The deep chocolate colour can soften over time, becoming lighter – therefore, if you are interested in ordering a collection of items from us, we recommend ordering them at the same time. This way your solid walnut purchases will develop in colour together.

If you are looking to colour match with current furniture please request a timber sample from us, but note that wood samples should be taken as indicative of the wood and finish – it is not possible to guarantee an exact colour match.

About Our Timbers:

At Natural Bed Company, for our wooden beds, we only use timber from sustainable sources and never use endangered tropical hardwoods. All our timber is from a legally certified source and purchased under the EUTR (European Union Timber Regulation). Our pine is from Scandinavia and our hardwoods – ash, oak, maple, cherry, walnut and beech are from the USA or northern Europe.

Caring for Walnut Furniture:

Unless otherwise specified, our walnut beds are finished in a durable clear soft satin (low sheen) lacquer. This provides an easy to care for and durable finish that doesn’t compromise the natural beauty of the wood grain. We suggest dusting your walnut bed with a dry, soft cloth.

Solid woods may expand and shrink slightly with differences in temperature and humidity. Take care not place your wooden furniture next to radiators or anywhere subject to any excessive changes in temperature or moisture content. If you are using our bedside tables – we recommend that all kitchenware and beverages should be placed on mats and any spillages should be wiped up immediately. Solid walnut furniture may be subject to rough grain protruding from previously smooth surfaces, this is usually caused by humid conditions or a spillage, and is indicative of water being absorbed into the wood and causing the grain to swell.

Cleaning: To clean wipe with a slightly damp cloth and immediately buff with a dry cloth. In the event of more stubborn marks, a solution of mild detergent should be used on the cloth. Silicone based polishes should not be used on the wood as they can build up and leave a sticky residue on the surface.
