One of our favourite colour combinations at Natural Bed Company is Black and White. It is a classic style that seems always to be on trend in one way or another. There are so many different designs that can be achieved with these tones, see a few of our favourites and our styling tips in this blog.

The most obvious trend for a Black and White colour scheme is a Monochromatic Modernist look. Keep your space as clear and tidy as possible for that super simple and paired back aesthetic then add in your chosen accessories.

Furniture

We obviously love beds – they’re not just a comfortable place to sleep but are the focal point of any bedroom, so it’s important in any bedroom design scheme that the bed is beautiful and fits in with your style!

For a purist take on the Black and White theme, a favourite is the Black on Oak effect, see the Black Malabar or Black Kulu beds, or for more of a statement check out the Black Oak Orchid four poster bed. If a black bed is too intense for you, we can also finish any of our beds in a White Painted effect on Beech. This is an opaque finish, so you won’t see as much of the grain of the timber. If you still want to see the grain, but with a cool, pale look – try a whitewash finish on maple wood.

Alternatively, any of our timbers with a natural finish would look amazing as a warm contrast to black or white walls and bedding. Natural timber is a good way to soften and add warmth to a stark, modern style. If you like the mix of natural timber with black, you will love the Ethnicraft Monolit and Blackbird collections, a great way to add some touches of warmth to your space whilst still keeping a clean and contemporary style!

Bedding

Monchrome bedding is a great choice for investment bedding since plain white, grey, or almost black bedding won’t date. These colours will also work well with a range of colour palettes so should you decide to redecorate in a couple of years and add some colour – this bedding will still look good with your new scheme. Have a look at our white or slate linen bedding for that classic textured look, or keep things ultra minimal with the 600 thread count or 1000 thread count bedding in classic white.

We love paring the Painted Stripe Bedding with the Black Knitted Throw or the slate or grey Stockholm Bedspread, these colours and styles add a contemporary twist on a classic combination. For a more contemporary look, see the Camino Cross Pattern Bedspread in Coal and for a more traditional style, check out the White Embroidered Cotton Bedspread.

Textures

Adding in contrasting layers is a great way to add extra texture and comfort. It helps to make a room feel less cold and more cosy. For example, you could start with something like the Star Pattern Blanket or Porto Cotton Rich Bedspread, then add the Sheepskin throw (in Black or White) or the White Faux Fur Throw.

Top it all off with Linen Ruffle Cushions or Stockholm Cushions for extra texture and pattern. For a simpler look see the Velvet cushions, and Wool Cushions. By adding texture to a monochrome bedroom you can ensure that the look is warm with lots of visual interest. A black and white bedroom scheme is a bold choice, the last thing you want is for the look to be cold or bland.

Pops of Colour

A great Interior Design trick is pairing bright pops of colour with a unicolour room – the contrast is amplified and it’s a great way to add extra personal style and impactful colour. This also means that by swapping out a few of your accessories you can easily change the feel of your space throughout the year! Here are a few examples…

Femme – pairing pale blush or nude colours with black and white adds a soft contrast to these bolder shades, keeping the overall feel feminine and modern without being overly girly. Check out the Ruffle Edge Linen Cushions in Dusky Rose and the Plush Faux Fur Throw in Dusty Muted Pink.

Contemporary – the colour of the moment is Mustard, a rich tone that adds brightness and warmth to any space, variations of the tone can run towards a warmer gold colour or a cooler chartreuse. See the Velvet Reversible Quilt in Turmeric, Athens Throw in Gold or the Small Linen Ruffle Cushions and linen bedding in Chartreuse.

Fresh – an easy way to bring the calm feeling of the outdoor in – add lots of plants to your space for a serene feel. We also love the Tall and Skinny Lockers in Olive and the Geometric Stitched Bedspread in Army Green. Green with white is bright and crisp, green and black is moody and warm.

Accessories

Other great additions to this look is the Adjustable LED Light, Edge Lamp and Alarm Clock, Prisma Frames, these modern shapes make a real feature in your minimal room. To inject extra atmosphere simply add Mojo Candles or Diffusers, Meraki or Chalk Candles.

Bathroom

It’s not just the bedroom that can be refreshed with a brand new look – see the Modern Monochrome design in our Bathroom Looks blog. Get the basics right with Black and White Towels, our Bathroom Accessories set in Black or White, and the Fabric Laundry Bin in Stripes.

Loungewear

Now that all the hard work is done, you can enjoy your new space by lounging around in the Linen Kimono or Slouch Dress. For a more cosy feel check out the Cotton T-shirt or Cosy Kimono in Charcoal and Ivory.
