This beautiful, classic furniture collection is timeless in its design, and crafted using solid natural timber. Available in both solid oak and walnut. Timeless, traditional design but with a contemporary edge, Shaker furniture is ideal for creating a cosy feel. Characterised by a shallow tabletop and tall legs, it has an almost retro, homely feel; easy to style in any setting. Black Lotus is the name for our collection of bedroom furniture – available in two designs; Shaker and Cube. These collections represent the best of Natural Bed Company’s ideals; minimal and modern in their design and crafted from natural materials – beautiful functionality.
Probably the main characteristic – and one of our favourite features – are the long legs that the Shaker pieces stand on. Adding a touch of elegance to its simplistic design.
The Shaker items boast deep drawers and a taller overall profile than the Cube range – which presents a more geometric look. The whole Black Lotus range was designed to be paired with any one of our beds. The Shaker range has a classic look, whereas the Cubes are more contemporary. Any of the pieces from either of these collections are simple, minimal and easy to match – a perfect pairing with any of our handmade wooden beds.
Both the Shaker and Cube collections boast similar pieces across the range. Though initially designed for use as bedroom furniture, these items are also perfect for use in the lounge, hallway or office thanks to their versatile designs. The Shaker range consists of two bedside table options – available in a two drawer or a three drawer option. There are also larger items in the form of multiple chests of drawers. The Tall 5 Drawer Chest is ideal for storing clothes in the bedroom, or there is a slightly shorter version; the 3 Drawer Chest. Though it can be used in the bedroom, the largest item – the Wide 6 Drawer Chest – is also ideal as a sideboard in the lounge or dining room.
Super versatile, the Black Lotus pieces can be used anywhere in the home. Thanks to their ample storage space, they’re perfect for the bedroom, lounge, or office alike.
You can find the full range of Black Lotus furniture here on our website. These designs have been with us almost since the business first came into being. Originally designed by Natural Bed Company’s co-founder, Peter Bennion. The whole Black Lotus range is available in either American Black Walnut or American White Oak (the same species of walnut and oak we use for our bed bases). And though natural variations are to be expected, we find them to be a great match to our bed frames.
Our previous supplier of Black Lotus furniture was a small, family-run business based in Vietnam. Unfortunately, following the pandemic in 2020, the business dissolved and we have been looking for a new supplier ever since. Last year, our efforts bore fruit and we now have a new supplier based in Europe! The Cube range was available again last year, and is now routinely being restocked. The Shaker range is now available again in oak, and a limited edition Smoked Walnut finish (you can read all about this in our dedicated blog post). It was also be available in walnut in the standard finish later this year.

We had a long standing relationship with our Vietnam supplier, so it was certainly a shame to see them go under following Covid. However, it did give us the opportunity to find a supplier that has more similar ideals to our own. Our new European supplier boasts many eco-credentials. To name a few;
