We’ve been making solid oak beds for decades now and though styles and designs change the popularity of oak never does! Here we’ll take a look at the beds we have photographed in solid oak and the oak bedroom furniture we have available to complete the look. All of our bed designs are available in oak, but not every model has been photographed in this timber. Hopefully we’ll show you enough of our designs in oak here so you can image every model in this gorgeous timber.
We generally use American white oak for our oak beds – this species of oak is a mid shade with rich golden tones. The grain is vibrant and varies – so every oak bed will be unique. The timber is sourced from north American ‘farmed’ forests in the coastal areas of Canada and the USA. These large forests are among the best managed in the world and, due to careful management, are increasing in size.
Oak is a strong, heavy and durable timber which has subtle variations in tone and colour cast. Differences in the tight, pronounced grain pattern reflect the differences between the original trees. Small knots or burrs may be present and are part of the natural beauty of wood.Over time white oak becomes gradually warmer, slightly deeper and more ‘golden’ in hue.
Below you can see a range of our oak beds. As you can see it suits every look, from modernist ‘Japandi’ style beds to classic four poster beds and all in between!

While available we have the Camden and Chiswick bed designs available in solid English oak (see more images in the grid below). Our English oak is sourced from Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, harvested purely due to good forest management.
This oak is even heavier and more durable than American oak. English Oak is generally much more characterful too. The colour is a beautiful golden shade, ranging from pale straw to deep honey browns. This timber features a strong grain and “Cats Paw” clusters of knots peppered throughout. This “Pippy” Oak is the result of the open nature of our woodlands. The easy light penetration encourages a quick growth of buds on the main tree trunks. These growths penetrate deep into the heart wood of the tree, and when cut they appear as ‘cat’s paws’ or patches of burr on the board. The grain swirls around these knots and clusters, creating beautiful wild patterns and figures. These natural variations are highly prized by furniture makers for truly unique pieces!

We craft a range of bedside tables ourselves in American white oak and we make the Camden drawer table in English oak. However we have lots of other options, made by other makers, available too. From bedside tables and nightstands to open wardrobe units and chests of drawers – you’re sure to find a design to suit your needs.
The latest additions to our oak furniture range includes the Oslo collection shown here and the new Deco range with reeded drawer fronts and brass handles. Both of these ranges look fabulous with our classic mid-height beds and four posters.
The Cube range of Black Lotus furniture and the Ethnicraft range of oak furniture will work beautifully with our more modern bed designs.
