Lead times – how long will it take to make my bed?

As our bed frames are hand made to order, a lead time of 10-12 weeks was usual. However, 2021 was our busiest year and due to the volume of orders going through our small Sheffield workshop, lead times have increased to 18+ weeks. We hope to get our lead times down, and have taken steps such as taking on additional workshop space and training extra craftsmen to help with this. We thank you for your patience regarding our extended lead times. I’m sure that once you have received your new Natural Bed Company bed you will agree that it was worth the wait! When your bed is close to being ready we’ll email you to notify you of despatch. Delivery following despatch with our national carrier can take 5-7 working days. We deliver customer orders which are local to Sheffield in our own van.

Here you will find our answers to some frequently asked questions about ordering a bed from us:

Where do you deliver to?
We deliver free of charge throughout mainland UK. For a delivery quote to offshore islands, Europe and the rest of the world please contact us by phone or email and provide us with the following information:
  • which items you are interested to purchase: including size, style, quantity, and where appropriate, timber choice;
  • your full delivery address.
  • N.B. for items exported outside of the UK we deduct the VAT (currently 20%) from our prices. Local VAT rates and duties charges may apply when the goods reach the destination country.

Are Natural Bed Company beds flat-packed?
All our bed-bases are flat-packed to aid delivery and easy access to your home.
Our beds have been designed for simple self-assembly, and clear instructions are supplied. Approximate assembly times are indicated on the web site.
Most of our mattresses are vacuum packed, rolled and boxed for very easy handling. Once unpacked they open out to full size, being fully expanded after a few hours.

Are your beds made from solid timber?
Yes, we don’t use veneered materials for our beds, only solid wood.

When ordering a bed with a headboard painted in a solid colour, the headboard panel will be made in mdf. Mdf is preferable for large painted panels because wood, being a natural material, can swell very slightly in large panels, resulting in cracks to the painted finish.

How do I order?
Order on-line, or by email, by phone, or in person at our Sheffield showroom. Payment can be made in full online using a credit or debit card. Alternatively you can pay the deposit and balance over the phone with your card details, or pay by cheque, cash, or bank transfer.

Can I wait to view the goods before my final payment?
We require full payment before your goods are despatched; please see our returns policy for further information.

What happens if the goods are damaged on arrival?
This is very unlikely, but if there is obvious damage to your delivery you should refuse to accept the damaged package and ask the carrier to return it to us.
Even if the packaging appears to be in good condition, we would ask you to unpack and inspect the goods and report any damage within three days. (I’m afraid we cannot accept any claims for transit damage after that time).
We will then ensure that you receive your replacement order as soon as possible, or offer you a full refund if you prefer.

How long will my order take?
When you place your order we’ll give you an approximate contact date; around that date, when your order is ready, we’ll contact you regarding delivery.

Some products are quicker to produce: futon mattresses usually take around 6-8 weeks. The majority of other mattresses are ordered direct from supplier, and the lead time is usually 10-12 weeks. Some mattresses are held in stock at our workshop and may be available more quickly – let us know what it is that you want.

Delivery companies can take a little longer on the run up to Christmas, so at that time of year please allow an extra week or so.

Can it be quicker?
We offer hundreds of different finish and size options so mostly we make to order. There’s a possibility that we may have what you want in stock, so let us know what you’re looking for and we can check for you.

Should I visit the showroom?
We’d love to see you! We get visitors from all over the UK every week and in the showroom you can take your time trying the mattresses and viewing all the bed designs on display.
You can also see our full range of bedding, accessories and gifts and of course we’ll be happy to help and advise you face to face.
The showroom opening hours are Monday-Saturday 10am-5.30pm. We close on Bank holidays and for the Christmas break – often re-opening on the 2nd January.

Can you make a bespoke bed design for me?
We’re often able to customise our designs and although we don’t generally make bespoke furniture, it may be possible depending on your requirements and how busy we are. Please contact us to discuss your ideas.
