About the Natural Bed Company
Small is beautiful.
We make about a thousand beds a year using sustainably resourced timber. Buying timber from managed forests ensures that new trees are planted and the cycle of planting, growth and harvest can continue. Timber for the mass produced furniture from China and the Far East may be logged illegally or with no regard for the immediate environment or future of the planet. We think it is important that the amazing natural resource of timber should be used to make furniture that will last.
We also believe in continuing to use local skills and in preserving the tradition and satisfaction of making a piece of furniture from start to finish. Our style of production and the variation in wood grain and colour ensures that each piece is beautiful and unique.
Most of our customers order their bed in a hardwood but we also offer most of our beds in pine – we’re aware that people have different budgets and we want to make our designs as accessible as possible. Whereas most furniture is made in large quantities and limited sizes our aim is to make beds that are right for you and your room so we’re always happy to discuss modifying our designs. Ask us - it may be possible!
We have been awarded the prestigious Made in Sheffield mark granted to local
businesses continuing Sheffield’s tradition of quality manufacturing. Our
commitment to quality and service is further underlined by our membership of
The Furniture Ombudsman and the Guild of Master Craftsmen. In addition, we
receive a great deal of positive feedback from our customers - to view some

Mattresses
Buying a new bed will probably involve choosing a new mattress. We can give you good advice on the phone but if you come to the showroom you’ll be able to see the beds and test out the different mattresses. You’ll also see our collection of lighting, bedding, complementary furnishings and gifts.
Sheffield Interiors
We ship our beds World-wide but we’re rooted in the local community. Sheffield is home to many unique and individual businesses. Three years ago we formed Sheffield Interiors with two other modern interior retailers near to our showrooms – Prego and David Village Lighting. We collaborate to promote modern interior design products and can arrange combined deliveries from the three shops. Collectively we offer a superb choice of modern design ideas. Check this website before you come to Sheffield: www.sheffieldinteriors.co.uk
India
Our other main love is for the textiles and carvings of India. For more than 30 years we’ve been selling hand made furnishings and furniture from around the world. Although we’ve been influenced by changing trends over the years we’ve had a constant love of Indian fabrics. Some fabrics are only available at the shop but have an extensive range of silk and cotton bedding that we sell online. You can view these at www.naturalbedcompany.co.uk/indian_bedding.php.
We have three beds made in India which incorporate hand carved details in a dark wooden frame. The designs are modern but with Indian references. The traditional tools and techniques used by the Indian woodworkers bring these designs to life and create unique beds with individual character.
We have a changing selection of intriguing folk art from India. Currently we’re exhibiting a number of very unusual village paintings – beautiful images depicting village life and tribal myths.

Tibet
The Natural Bed Company has supported the cause of the Tibetan people for several years – for every bed we make we send £1 to a selected project. China has occupied Tibet since 1950 and has destroyed much of the Tibetan culture. Thousands of Tibetans have escaped over the Himalayas to escape persecution and to preserve their way of life; many settle in northern India. During 2004-5 we donated £1700 to provide new mattresses for Tibetan children's homes in India. For the last two years we have been directing our donations to a reception centre for Tibetan refugees arriving in Nepal and a new school in Amdo, an impoverished area in eastern Tibet.
