Brexit Implications for Customers in the E.U.

On January 1st Britain left the European Union. Now the transition period is over and a deal is in place, there are a few changes to the costs of orders from our EU customers, alongside some restrictions in the products we currently ship to the EU.

I am sorry to say that we are currently not supplying small orders (bedding etc) to EU customers due to the considerable increase in transport charges, paper-work costs, tariffs etc and delivery delays – these unfortunately do not cost in with smaller orders. We hope, that the situation settles, and this will soon change.

Unfortunately, at the moment we can no longer ship our upholstered headboard beds outside of the United Kingdom. Despite our headboards undergoing full FIRA safety testing, in order to ship within the European Union we believe re-testing and new certification is required.
We hope to be able to offer our beautiful handcrafted upholstered beds to all our international customers in the very near future!

Sales Tax

We now ship goods from the UK to the EU with UK VAT (20% sales tax) removed from the purchase price. We will also remove VAT on international shipping costs. Therefore the quotes received now should be lower than the prices we quoted pre-Brexit.
N.B. If you have paid the VAT inclusive price when placing your order – the UK VAT will be refunded to you.

We must advise customers however that local sales tax, and possibly import charges and customs fees, will apply once the goods reach the destination country.
Please contact your local customs office in advance of placing your order to ascertain what additional charges will apply.

Delivery Times

We are lucky to still be able to have our workshop open and manufacturing beds despite Covid 19 restrictions. However, as we are very busy and managing production with social distancing, this has resulted in much longer lead-times currently than normal.

Please note – there have also been some transit delays due to delays at the ports, additional paper-work and other restrictions.
This is unfortunate, but hopefully temporary, as customs get to grips with the new implications/paperwork that comes with Brexit.

Delivery Costs

As we remove VAT from shipping costs you may expect the costs to be lower. Unfortunately however, international carriers across the board have seen a noticeable increase in carriage costs. Therefore it is possible that carriage costs could be the same as expected, or in some cases higher than the amount quoted pre Brexit when VAT was included.

We hope this will ease off with time – since reopening after the Christmas break we have already noticed the higher charges are lowering slightly. We hope this will be a continuing direction of travel.

Please be assured Natural Bed Company do not make profit from carriage charges. We only pass on the cost of the delivery less the contribution we normally make towards UK delivery charges.

Please note: the couriers shipping quotes are only valid for 6 weeks, and with the length of our current lead time, we cannot guarantee that this price will still be valid come shipment, it could fluctuate up or down.

We will of course always argue for the best possible price for you come despatch and if the price increase is only small we can likely cover this. However, if the shipping cost change is sizeable, I’m sorry to say that we will have to pass this charge onto the customer. Rest assured though, we will discuss the confirmed the shipping cost with you prior to despatching your order and if the shipping charge decreases we will pass this saving onto you!
