Here at NBC, we have a few bed families, our longest-standing of which is called the Nevada collection. A collection of modern wooden bed designs, our Nevada-style beds boasts elegant simplicity and clean lines. We’ve gone over these beds before, but have since added a couple of designs to the collection. In this blog, we’ll introduce each bed and point out the key differences between each design.

Nevada

To start, we have the very first bed base in this collection, the Nevada itself! This bed has been around since the 90s. Perfect for attic bed spaces and bedrooms with limited headroom, the Nevada is a low bed base with a very minimal headboard. Whereas most of our beds that have headboards are made up of multiple sections of timber, the Nevada’s headboard is made up of only one slim section of timber. Its dimensions can be found below.

Due to its minimal headboard and low profile, this bed base aesthetically suits slim mattresses. If you do have a mattress above 20cm deep, we’d recommend raising the headboard or opting for the Sonora (see further down).

As standard, this bed is available in all of our timbers.

Overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattress; 195cm for 190cm long mattress
Overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Nevada is 150cm wide
Height to top of bed slats: 19cm
Under-bed clearance: 9.5cm
Height to top of headboard: 56.5cm

Sonora

Another low bed base with only one difference from the Nevada; the headboard panel! Instead of being made up of one timber section, the Sonora’s headboard is comprised of two, making it double the size of the Nevada’s headboard. Otherwise, these low beds are identical in every other way.

Due to it having a bigger headboard than the Nevada, it aesthetically suits mattresses 20 – 25cm deep. As mentioned above, the headboard height can be altered for extra deep mattresses. Simply get in touch for more info/a quote.

As standard, this bed is available in all of our timbers.

Overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattress; 195cm for 190cm long mattress
Overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Sonora is 150cm wide
Height to top of bed slats: 19cm
Under-bed clearance: 9.5cm
Height to top of headboard: 76.5cm

Malabar

A popular and long-standing design, the Malabar is a mid-height bed base. It is taller and has a slightly larger headboard than the Sonora mentioned above, and has a larger under-bed clearance than both of the aforementioned designs. It is also currently available to purchase in Smoked Walnut and Black Stained Oak. Its generous headboard size also makes it ideal for mattresses up to 25cm deep.

As standard, this bed is available in all of our timbers.

Overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattress; 195cm for 190cm long mattress
Overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Malabar is 150cm wide
Height to top of bed slats: 31.5cm
Under-bed clearance: 19.5cm
Height to top of headboard: 92.5cm

Sahara

If you love the look of a more minimal headboard panel, the Sahara may be the right bed base for you. It still retains the same base height as the Malabar (above), however, its headboard is approx. 14cm shorter. Ideally, this bed is aesthetically suited to mattresses that are 20cm. If your mattress is deeper than this, we’d recommend either raising the headboard or taking a look at the Malabar!

As standard, this bed is available in all of our timbers.

Overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattress; 195cm for 190cm long mattress.
Overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Sahara is 150cm wide.
Height to top of bed slats: 31.5cm
Under-bed clearance: 19.5cm
Height to top of headboard: 78.5cm

Tibet

The Tibet design has legs that are almost 8cm taller than the Malabar and Sahara. It also has chunkier legs than the aforementioned beds, which are approx. 2cm wider. Its headboard panel approx. 4 – 5cm shorter than the Malabar’s. It is pictured with mattresses that are between 20 – 25cm deep. If your mattress is deeper than this, we’d recommend either raising the headboard or taking a look at the Bamford (see further down).

As standard, this bed is available in all of our timbers.

Overall length: 207cm for 200cm long mattress; 197cm for 190cm long mattress sizes.
Overall width: same as nominal size, eg a 150cm Tibet is 150cm wide
Height to top of bed slats: 39cm
Under-bed clearance: 27cm
Height to top of headboard: 95cm

Bamford

One of the newest additions to this collection, the Bamford boasts a very generous headboard panel! It has the same under-bed clearance and chunky legs as the Tibet, but with a headboard that is approx. 19cm larger. Although pictured on the website with mattresses that are 20 – 25cm deep, you will still have a good amount of headboard left with mattresses that are up to 30cm deep. Of course, we can always raise the headboard if you’d like to keep as much headboard on show as possible, or if you have an extra deep mattress!

As standard, this bed is only available in our hardwood timbers.

Overall length: 207cm for 200cm long mattress; 197cm for 190cm long mattress sizes.
Overall width: same as nominal size, eg a 150cm Bamford is 150cm wide
Height to top of bed slats: 39cm
Under-bed clearance: 27cm
Height to top of headboard: 114cm

Hathersage

There is only one difference between the Hathersage and the Bamford; their headboards! The size of the panels (at approx. 58cm) is the same, however, whereas the Bamford has a plain headboard panel, the Hathersage’s features a beautiful chevron pattern. Other than this detail, the beds are identical! (For the dimensions, please refer to the Bamford above.)

As standard, this bed is only available in our hardwood timbers.
