Black beds can be dark and moody, but also sleek and ultra-modern. We offer a variety of options when it comes to timber, the naturally darkest of ours being walnut. But what if you want something darker? We have two options when it comes to staining that you may be interested in if you’re after a black bed base.
This is the most popular of our black bed options. This involves spray-finishing our natural American White Oak bed bases with an opaque black lacquer. The finish can be seen on our luxe black oak Camden bed base, Black Oak Kulu and our black oak Malabar, but any of our beds can be made in this option.
We spray-lacquer our bed bases, ensuring the finish is even and silky smooth to the touch. None of our lacquers are glossy, either, leaving a soft and modern ‘almost matte’ finish on all our hand-made products. As this is a stain rather than a paint, the natural texture of the oak still shows through. This adds interest and give the black stain a rich warmth.
Please note, Black Stained Oak is not listed as standard on the product pages for all our beds. Feel free to get in touch with us if you would like to discuss ordering a black stain on any of our bed models, or need any further information.
The other way to get a black bed base is our painted beech option. Beech is naturally smooth in grain and texture, making it a perfect surface to paint onto.
Our Northern European beech is sanded before applying the paint to ensure a good grip for the paint to ensure a long-lasting finish. The paint is also applied as a spray-coat for a solid, all-over coverage. This leaves a totally smooth finish, without showing the texture of the timber through the paint.
Although we’re talking about black bed bases, we can paint our beech bed bases in any colour you’d like. We can either work from a Pantone swatch matching the colour you’ve got in mind, or you can provide the Farrow & Ball colour code for your chosen shade!
As with our Black Stained Oak option, the choice of Painted Beech is not one offered as standard on our product pages. For more information, please feel free to get in touch with us, and we’d be happy to discuss further options. If you would like to mix natural timber with a black headboard – take a look at our Koo, Sol or Tao beds. These beds have a painted headboarfd with a solid hardwood frame in oak or walnut. You can also choose a black fabric for our upholstered headboard beds – with a black stained bed frame or a natural finish hardwood base.Take a look at our painted and upholstered beds here.
If you’d like to go the whole way, why not pair your black bed base with some matching accessories? The Monolit or Spindle black bedside tables make for perfect matching items. Or, if you prefer a complimenting colour, the new dark, lush mahogany tables from Ethnicraft are a great option. If you’d like to make your bed look extra large, and also add some extra storage space, why not consider adding an Ethnicraft Spindle or Bok bench to the foot-end. (Both available in black!)
If you really want to push the boat out, add some black highlights over a light-toned bedding to complete your look. Find our full range of black bedding here.
Here at Natural Bed Company, we think black is one of the best colour options you can choose. It can be styled as a neutral, or highlighted as a stark contrast, depending on your preference. Black is easy to match with existing or new colour schemes, so you don’t have to worry if you want to update the colours in your room.
Personally, we love the look of a moody, all-black colour scheme. Check out our Pinterest board; Black Bedrooms for heaps of inspiration. How would you style yours?
