At Natural bed company, specialising in solid wood beds means we get to see all the natural variations in this beautiful material. We especially love styling bed bases in our Sheffield showroom and seeing how the look can change with a different timber choice.

In this blog, I wanted to show you one bed base in a few different solid wood options to demonstrate the different styles you can achieve with one bed design. I felt that the Leith is the perfect option to show off different timbers due to its large headboard framed in even more solid wood!

Solid Wood Leith in Oak

One of our most popular timbers – Oak is very versatile as it suits most styles and spaces!
Its mid golden brown tone brings some warmth and the strong grain reminds you of its natural origins. We love to pair this timber with textured linen bedding for a Scandi look – see pictured linen bedding in Sage and Stone. Oak can take quite a lot of styling without overwhelming your space, but it can also act as a focal point in more minimal spaces.

Oak will look fairly neutral when it first arrives with you, but will get slightly warmer and deeper with time.

Leith in Cherry

Cherry is the perfect choice for that warm cosy look. Our Cherry timber starts its life quite pale and subtle, but it quickly deepens to a lovely warm reddish hue with lighter sections throughout. The Cherry wood features a relatively smooth grain with some subtle swirling patterns.

We’ve paired the Cherry Leith with some neutral, slightly boho, bedding to really accentuate the timbers warmth. We also love to see this red hued timber contrasted with green accents such as the Fringed Waffle Throw in Olive.

Leith in Walnut

A dark and rich chocolate shade, Walnut is a popular choice for more traditional designs such as the Hoxton or Cochin. However, we think the deep tone of this timber highlights the bold shape of the Leith bed – especially that cube foot end piece!
We’ve leaned into this dark and cosy style with the Organic linen bedding in charcoal and a neutral wool throw. Paired with black furniture such as the Console Table and Ethnicraft Black Side Tables for a more grown up, slightly masculine yet still cosy, feel.

As always, our timbers are sourced from sustainably managed forests in North American and Scandinavia. This ensures the cycle of growth and harvest can continue for generations to come whilst also providing you with beautifully made solid furniture that will last made in our small Sheffield workshop.

I hope this blog has been helpful! Of course, you can always get in touch for further information on any of our beds, timbers and more. Or visit our showroom in Sheffield to see some beds in person!
