Crafting a timeless look is something that we strive to achieve here at Natural Bed Co. Not only does this mean that your interiors look inviting and intriguing, but also helps them stand the test of time. In general, people are making the move to live more sustainably, not just in terms of their habits, but also their homes. With this in mind, we thought we’d share our tips and tricks on creating a contemporary bedroom with our wooden beds.
When crafting your perfect bedroom, there are certain elements to keep in mind. Our first though is the look, the colour scheme, how we want it all to come together. But there may be other factors to consider that can influence this. For example, if your room doesn’t get a lot of light, you might prefer to avoid a dark colour scheme to avoid it looking small or dim. If you have a low ceiling, you may want to look a low furniture to avoid any beams or angled walls. Always consider your space first, and work outwards from there on what you can achieve.
It can also help to have a focal point in a space. In creating a contemporary look, a lot of the furniture is quite minimal and pared back. This gives you a good opportunity to highlight one or even a few statement pieces. Take our Oregon bed for instance. A minimal, modern style but a real showstopper thanks to its super low profile and ‘floating’ platform design. You can find it in all our hardwoods just here.
Are you a beige addict? Or do you live for colour? Whilst neutrals and monochromes are often what we think of when discussing contemporary design, we’ve started to notice a real shift towards colourful interiors. When creating a contemporary bedroom, you have free rein over how you design. The main elements to consider are light and space, and making sure your favourite pieces have some breathing room so they can really shine.
Both colourful and more neutral schemes can work for contemporary bedrooms. Why not add a pop of colour with a painted feature wall or bright art piece? The colour of timber you choose for our handmade beds can also play a role, and you can find all the timber options just here. We also offer a range of upholstered beds. Their fabric headboards offer a real opportunity to play with colour and texture.
(As you might be able to tell from our photos, green is our current favourite!)
We’re all trying to live more sustainably. As a company, we try and keep this in mind when investing in new stock, making our beds and in our day to day life at work. All our beds are made from EUTR certified sustainably sourced timbers, sourced from either the USA, Canada or Northern Europe. We also strive to stock furniture and homewares that are from environmentally conscious brands. We believe this is important in creating a contemporary bedroom, as it not only denotes quality and strength in the furniture items you purchase, but also makes them last. Timeless design is now about more than just look, it’s also about sustainability.
Some of our favourite items of bedroom furniture come to us from other likeminded companies. Our range of Ethnicraft furniture is crafted from solid timbers and designed to last. This brand also encapsulates that contemporary, Scandinavian style.
Newer furniture items such as the Two Tone Wide Chest or the Floating Bedside Units are other popular choices at the moment, and also make use of solid timbers in their construction.
In terms of bedding, we have a fair few organic and sustainable options. Our favourites are the Organic Linen Bedding Sets, the classic Organic Cotton Bedding and the Luxury Recycled Wool Throws. You can also find our full range of organic and sustainable products just here.
To us, contemporary styling is all about what works for you. Current trends can be tailored to suit your personal style, or mixed in with what you already know you love. Creating a any bedroom look should be all about making it your own. We encourage you to explore your own ideas and see what you can come up with!
