Exotic Special Edition Wooden Beds

Earlier this year we did a bit of spring-cleaning at the Natural Bed Company warehouse and discovered a quantity of exotic timber we thought had been used. (Ok, we forgot it was there!). From this we made five one-off wooden beds in the Sonora, Kyoto, Nevada and Sahara designs.

Special Edition Kyoto wooden bed – with headboard

Currently taking pride-of-place in the window of our Sheffield showroom, the special edition Kyoto is a standard king size (150x200cm) made from solid Utile. Utile, a West African hardwood, has a rich, deep red tone with an interesting and richly patterned grain.

The height of the headboard panel allows the timber to be clearly seen above duvets and pillows. Currently we have the bed on display with our Gold Kashmir Silk Indian Duvet set. The vibrant colour of the silk really brings out the warm tones of the timber. The special edition Kyoto bed is also shown above with our New England style bedding in grey and white. Perfect if you are looking for a more contemporary style.

Special Edition King Size Nevada and Sonora

Also on display in our showroom is the Nevada bed base, currently my favourite. The kaleidoscopic nature of the timber – burnt oranges, deep reds and browns, and flecks of golden yellow – together with the swirling grain has a mesmerising effect. After much research we believe the timber here to be Cocobolo, a hardwood found growing in Central America. We also have a king-size Sonora bed available in this timber. With its higher headboard allowing the grain and mix of colours to be shown off to an even greater extent.

The Nevada bed was photographed with a Vanilla Zari quilt. The light colour and simple pattern giving contrast to the deep tones and bold grain of the timber. The Ivory Taj bedspread, Pale Ivory soft quilted bedspread, and the Village Natural or White duvets would also have the same effect.

Special Edition Sahara

Two king size Special Edition Sahara beds were made from our exotic timber stocks. Both were thought to be Cocobolo but differing from the Sonora and Nevada timber, have a darker tone. The majority of the headboard and side rails here are more chocolate brown in colour, but with streaks of an almost pale oak tone visible throughout. The intense grain remains however. These beds would make a striking statement piece in any bedroom.

Delivery

As all our Special Edition wooden beds have already been made they are not subject to our usual 4-week lead-time. Instead we would expect delivery to occur within 2 weeks via our national carriers. Before any bed is sent out it would be sent to our workshop to ensure no issues have occurred and would be securely packed. Beds would then be delivered on a ‘2-man’ service. This includes the goods being taken to the room of your choice, and also unpacked. As with all beds in our range, they are delivered flat-packed for self-assembly.
