At Natural Bed Company we have lots of clients passionate about living an organic lifestyle, so we are always searching out new organic, natural products. To make it easy for you to find them we put together a short blog with an over-view of our luxury organic homewares:
Organic towels and Paraben free toiletries
We have a wide range of soft and absorbent organic cotton towels in a range of styles. From the thick and fluffy terry cotton towels in a range of neutral colours, to wrap towels in a range of styles: the hand/head organic cotton wrap, the wrap towel and the huge wellness wrap – bigger than most bath sheets and perfect for the spa.
For a range of bath-rime treats that are as kind to the environment as they are to you – take a look at our range of Meraki toiletries (always paraben free) including body scrubs and hand wash. Take a look at the Compagnie de Provence range too from Verbena liquid soap – made using natural foaming coconut oil, no colorants, no animal fats, no added parabens, no silicones, no mineral oils, no sulfates – to Grapefruit body lotion and bath foam.
Organic bedding
We have a range of luxurious organic cotton bedding and throws. The classic collection of organic cotton bedding is made using undyed and unbleached cotton – strong and long-lasting cotton that softens with use and washing. This collection of organic bedding has a thread count of approximately 160, this creamy coloured cotton has small, naturally occurring flecks in the weave.
The luxury alternative is our Finest Sateen Organic Cotton Bedding range – including pillowcases, fitted sheets and duvet covers made of finely woven organic cotton. This range is soft and smooth to the touch, with a subtle sheen. The thread count is approximately 290 but feels even higher – it’s light-weight and feels like silk.
Organic Cotton Throws – three reversible, organic cotton throws in a range of sophisticated shades. These throws are large enough to cover the end of your bed, and stylish enough to keep in the lounge, each throw is 240x140cm. They are made of soft, 100% organic cotton, certified by the soil association and GOTS. GOTS is an ecology and social responsibility standard within organic cotton.
Organic mattresses, pillows and duvets
We’ve recently added an organic cotton duvet to our collection, this soft and cosy duvet is light-weight and approximately 6-7tog in warmth. It’s ideal for spring-summer, you may just want to add a bedspread for colder nights and to take you through to autumn-winter. This luxury duvet, with a soft organic cotton percale cover, is filled with fluffy and warm organic cotton. GOTS and Soil Association certified.
The perfect pillows to pair with the organic cotton duvet and bedding are our Kapok Filled Pillows. These luxurious kapok filled pillows are as soft and supportive as feathers and down. The organic cotton outer is quilted with organic cotton, then filled with natural kapok. Kapok is a cotton-like, fluffy fibre obtained from the seed pods of the Ceiba Pentandra tree. It is a hollow fibre with a great warmth retention capacity and naturally disliked by dust mites.
If you are also looking for a mattress with organic credentials we recommend you take a look at the following mattresses: the Craft Firm mattress, the Craft Medium sprung mattress or the Vitalwood Aspiro mattress.
The Craft Mattresses are handcrafted in Devon, using over 2.5kg per sq. m of fine British wool (that’s over 19kg in a king-size!). The unique Cottonsafe® cover contains organic cotton and natural wool. They use no chemicals or adhesives – the Cottonsafe® fabric cover is naturally fire-retardant with no additional treatments (such as FR coating, chemicals or adhesives) inside or on the outer cover of the mattress.
The Vitalwood Aspiro mattress is a new addition to our mattress range. This is a luxurious medium/firm mattress manufactured using beech coil springs and organic latex. The Aspiro has two slightly different support options on the ‘top’ and ‘bottom’, just select the ‘top’ for a softer option, sleep on the ‘bottom’ side if you prefer a firmer feel.
The ‘top’ side has two sumptuous layers of Oeko-Tex Standard 100% organic latex above the wooden springs all wrapped in a layer of 100% organic lambswool, under the Cottonsafe® cover (same as used for the Craft mattresses). The other side of mattress is slightly firmer using the graphite latex at the top (which is firmer than the Oeko-Tex Standard 100% white organic latex and gives the mattress stability) again, with an outer layer of 100% organic lambswool and the Cottonsafe® cover.
The wooden coil springs within the Vitalwood Aspiro mattress are embedded within a special shell-type structure made of ‘Dunlop style’ 100% organic latex and graphite latex (60% natural and 40% synthetic latex with graphite) – capable of independent movement, they take the body weight evenly relieving the spine. The latex passes UK fire retardancy tests and is tested for harmful substances meeting the rigorous Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
Why buy organic:
Organic cotton is grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers. When you buy organic cotton you are supporting sustainable farming methods.
The raw cotton used for the organic cotton bedding comes from projects (e.g in Turkey and Kyrgystan) where growing cotton without pesticides and insecticides makes a huge difference to farmers’ lives. Organic farming is proving to be a practical solution to poverty, and builds sustainable communities where farmers and smallholders can rely on receiving a premium for their produce.
