It finally feels like it’s here. Blue skies, sunny spells and bright evenings. Summer is definitely the season of getting things done. So much more happens this time of year; from markets and local events to getting out in the garden. And, it’s also the season of colour. Flowers blooming, banners waving and the ocean calling. In today’s article, we share with you our favourite colours for summer 2024.
Reds and oranges are often associated with cooler times of year. Autumn leaves come to mind, or winter berries. However, because of terracotta’s more muted shade, we’ve found it a great option for summer. It is a deep, bricky colour – sometimes leaning more towards a dark red, and sometimes more of a rusty orange. It reminds us of the Mediterranean, and pairs wonderfully with similar colours from that area of the world.
We love matching it with similar warm tones, or contrasting with pops of white or even green. There’s something quite nostalgic about the colour, too, and it has a vintage/90s feel about it. It is our wall colour of choice in the showroom at the moment.
Our lovely new wall colour is called Yes, Chef by the wonderful COAT Paints. Use our code CCNBED20 for 20% off your COAT order!
Our favourites in terracotta – Circle Pattern Bedding Set in Orange, Cotton Muslin Throws in Pecan, Cotton Velvet Quilts in Terracotta, Large Woven Stripe Throws in Terracotta & the Cotton Boho Cushions in Cinnamon.
I’m not sure if green will ever stop being a favourite! Supposedly, we naturally feel good in green spaces, as it reminds our brains of nature and being outdoors. Olive green is a distinctly warm shade of green. A mix of the classic shade with undertones of warm yellow. It gives us the ultimate in cosy vibes, and is a firm favourite the year round. In summer, pair it with more green tones for a tropical jungle feel.
Olive green also pairs wonderfully with lighter colours to create contrast. We love matching it with pale, warm neutral tones for a calm, cosy atmosphere. Add some leafy plants and a statement glass vase and you’re good to go.
Our favourites in olive green – Cotton Boho Cushions in Olive, Linen Bedding in Olive, Cotton Velvet Quilts in Olive Green, Textured Cotton Rich Throws and matching cushions.
A new addition to our usual favourites, pink clay has been creeping in over the last year or so, but has now come to the forefront. Lots of the bedding manufacturers we work with have been introducing this shade recently, and we love it. A more modern version of a blush pink, pink clay pulls more towards a rust colour, whilst still being firmly ‘pink’. A deep, rosy shade with a muted undertone, it makes a lovely, indulgent option for summer.
We love pairing pink clay with similar shades. As it is itself a mid-tone, it makes a great base for darker or lighter variations on the same shade. It looks sweet with blush pinks and paler tones, or make it moody with dark reds. You could also bring in contrasting colours, with pops of green or blue.
Our favourites in pink clay – Organic Cotton Muslin Bedding in Pink Clay, Cotton Muslin Bedspreads and Throws in Pink Clay and Thin Stripe Breakfast Cushions in Clay.
A classic colour, blue can be many things and has a whole host of differing tones and shades. Cool and corporate or warm and laid back, you name it and there’s probably a blue for it. This year, we’ve seen a rise in soft, dusty blues. Not quite a cornflower blue, dusty blue is more muted and soft. It’s a lovely pared-back shade, whilst still bringing a pop of colour. In summer, it reminds us of hazy blue skies, dips in the ocean and warm evenings.
Dusty blue is one of the most lovely colours for summer, and can be styled in a multitude of different ways. We love matching it with darker tones for a warm yet moody look, but it also pairs wonderfully with lighter colours. Try bringing in pops of white for a bright and breezy look, or contrast with pale greens or nude pinks for a more whimsical feel.
Our favourites in dusty blue – Egyptian Cotton Bedding Set in Storm Blue, Classic Stripe Duvet Set in Blue, Cotton Muslin Bedspreads and Throws in Dusk, and the Cornflower Blue Stonewash Cotton Bedspread.
