Oak beds can suit a whole myriad of interior design schemes. Oak timber itself boasts a pale, golden tone, which at its base is the perfect neutral colour. As such, oak is a timeless choice that can tone in beautifully with almost any colour you pair it with. Our beds are available in a wide range of designs, from traditional and classic, through to modern and contemporary. It’s up to you which design you choose, and how to style it!
Here are some of our recommendations for classic and contemporary beds…
For a classic look, you really can’t go far wrong with our Camden bed base. A staple customer favourite over the last few years, this mid-century inspired bed base is the eponymous design in our Camden collection. The epitome of classic, simple elegance, the soft curved legs and rounded headboard posts are what give the Camden its timeless appeal.
If you’re looking for a four poster design with the same feel, we’d suggest the Canterbury; a four poster designed with the curves and characteristics of the Camden in mind. The Canterbury features a soft, rounded design, and slim, delicate canopy. Ideal for adding height without looking too chunky.
Or, if you like the classic, mid-century look, but prefer a more angular style, take a look at the Cochin and Zanskar beds. Both models offer the same elegance and retro feel as the Camden, but with a slightly more geometric look.
If you’re looking for a more contemporary look, we would suggest our Leith bed base. The Leith is a unique bed frame – even amongst our designs! – thanks to its cubic style and straight edges. It features a bold frame design; an element defining both the foot rail and headboard. The foot-end boasts a runner along the bottom of the legs, forming a rectangular frame shape. This is mirrored on the headboard, which has a shadow box design surrounding the wooden headboard panel.
The Leith is the wooden version of our upholstered Shetland bed base, if you’re looking for a bed with a padded headboard!
If you like the contemporary style of the Leith, but would prefer something more minimal, the Malabar may be for you. The Malabar is a simple, timeless design, easy to style however you’d like. The large headboard allows you to show off the beauty of natural oak timber, whilst the slim, square legs offer a minimal profile.
Alternatively, if you like the idea of combining classic and contemporary, we’d suggest the Highbury. A part of the Camden collection, the Highbury carries the same gently curved legs as the whole Camden range. But, it differs in its large, statement headboard. Like all our beds, the Highbury is crafted by hand and boasts a modern, geometric headboard panel. Ideal for real timber, as it shows off the natural variations found in our hardwoods.
To pair with your handmade oak bed base, you might like some matching oak furniture! We make a selection of bedside tables and under-bed drawers by hand in our Sheffield workshop, which you can find just here. We offer a range of designs to match with our bed bases, but we also stock other bedroom furniture from external manufacturers, to offer you more choice.
As well as our own, ever-popular Cube Tables, you can also find the Black Lotus range of bedroom furniture in both Cube and Shaker style. The Cube range is a more modern, contemporary style, whereas the Shaker gives off a more classic, traditional look. All are made using solid wood, and available in either oak or walnut.

To pair with your oak bed and bedroom furniture, you might like to complement it with a few finishing touches! We love pairing our oak beds with the lovely Round or Rectangular Oak Trays – a lovely spot for breakfast in bed. Or, take a look at the white ash Mushroom Lamps or Light Up Wooden Alarm Clocks. White ash is a great match for the American White Oak we make our beds from, and these look great next to them.
Oak is a timeless choice that matches with a wide variety of colours. However, we feel matching timeless with timeless is always a winner. We love dressing our oak beds with soft and simple linens – such as the Organic Linen in soft beige.
