The Camden collection features elegant tapered legs, curved details and fine, tapering headboard supports. The collection includes a range of beds – each a slight variation on the original Camden bed. The Carnaby is very similar to the Camden, but with shorter legs. The Pimlico bed has a shorter headboard panel along with shorter legs. The Hoxton bed has the same dimensions/proportions as the Camden, but with a feature headboard panel with a chevron pattern. We have also designed bedside tables and an end-of-bed bench to perfectly suit the beds in this collection.
The Camden bed is available in our standard American white oak, sourced from Canada and the USA, and in our special edition English Oak. You can see both versions in the gallery below.
American white oak has a consistent tone and a tight grain. This lovely timber has rich golden hue. American white oak will deepen in colour over time, it’s our most popular timber choice. You can order our Camden bed in oak here.
English oak is a more characterful timber! It may feature ‘cat’s paws’ – clusters of small knots peppered throughout the timber. This “Pippy” Oak is the result of the open nature of our woodlands. The easy light penetration encourages a quick growth of buds on the main tree trunks. These growths penetrate deep into the heart wood of the tree, and when cut they appear as ‘cat’s paws’ or patches of burr on the board. You can find our English oak Camden bed here.
We also offer the oak Camden bed with a black lacquer finish. This option still shows off the grain, but works well with black furniture and accessories.
Walnut is a beautiful chocolate brown timber with a vibrant grain and occasional swirls of lighter, caramel colour wood.
This timber is a great choice for the Camden as it really suits the ‘mid-century’ look of this design. It’s particularly popular with those ordering the Hoxton bed as the chevron pattern makes the most of the bold, varied grain of this stunning timber.
Walnut usually lightens in colour over time, if you are looking for a really dark brown hue, we recommend adding a ‘smoked’ finish to the walnut. This tinted lacquer adds depth to the colour and reduces the look of changes in colour over time. If you want to see more images of the smoked walnut finish – take a look at our Highbury bed.
As with all our hardwoods, we make bedroom furniture to match in a variety of styles.
Cherry wood, like walnut, works really well in a mid-century style inspired bedroom. Cherry has a warm, subtly rosy hue that deepens with time into a beautiful russet shade. Small areas of lighter coloured grain can also sometimes occur.
Although cherry is relatively knot-free, small knots or burrs may be present. These are part of the natural beauty of wood. If you want to accentuate the warmer tones of natural cherry, we recommend considering an oiled finish. The images at the bottom of the gallery below show this finish. If you are looking for a bedside table in cherry – take a look at our Camden tables and Camden drawer tables. Unlike oak and walnut it can be difficult to source bedside tables in cherry – so we designed our own! We’ve also created an end-of bed bench to suit the Camden bed. You can see this here.
Maple wood is the palest timber we offer. Using the timber for the Camden design give the bed a cool, Scandinavian modernity.
Maple is a very pale, blonde wood with a smooth grain and a contemporary appearance. It’s fine grain and subtle swirly appearance lends itself to more minimal schemes. For a really minimal look some customers prefer to order the Camden without a headboard – you can see this option in the gallery below.
Maple’s pale vanilla tone is perfect for a light and airy bedroom scheme, brightening your room and creating a calm and relaxing space.Over time maple will deepen to a richer, more golden hue.
As with cherry, it can be a challenge to find bedroom furniture in maple, so we recommend our own collection – available in all our hardwood timbers including maple.
Ash is one of our more variable timbers with a bold, vibrant grain incorporating swirls of pale vanilla and deep burnt caramel hues. With our natural colour lacquer this variety in grain and colour is clear to see (as you can here!) Over time the tone of the wood will increase in warmth and depth.
The bold grain is also why we offer this timber in two ‘smoked’ finishes. The darker swirls emphasise the depth of the lacquer’s tint, while the paler areas show off original hue. We offer the smoked ash Camden bed in warm and cool options.
You can see the Camden in warm smoked ash and Carnaby bed in cool smoked ash below. Our smoked ash bedside drawer tables also feature in the gallery below.
Beech is a light coloured timber with a slightly pinkish cast and a tight, speckled grain. It’s smooth texture and subtle appearance works great in minimal interior schemes or where you’d like the shape of your bed base to be the main focal point rather than the grain.
Over time, the colour of beech can deepen slightly and grow warmer in tone.
If you are looking for a bed without a lacquer finish because you intend to paint the bed yourself – we would always suggest beech. It shows little grain when painted and, as the dense grain rarely opens up, it make a great base for your chosen colour.

As discussed in the section on oak – we currently have the Camden available in English oak. However this is not our only special edition timber – we are also offering two of our bed designs in Scottish Elm: the Camden and Kyoto beds.
Take a look at the Camden in Scottish Elm here.
Elm is a beautifully wild timber – unapologetically varied. Sometimes, you can find green or pink toned streaks shot through the timber, small collections of knots, and even intricate, densely patterned areas of grain and burrs.Elm wood is famous for its interlocked grain and wavy bands. These wavy bands create a jagged, zig-zag pattern sometimes called a “partridge-breast” figure as can be seen in the images below.
As mentioned the Camden collection features many variations – in proportions and detailing.
A standard Camden bed has the following dimensions:
Over-all length: 207cm for a 200cm long mattress; 197cm for a 190cm long mattress.Over-all width: same as the nominal size, e.g. a Camden bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideHeight to top of bed slats: 38cmUnder-bed clearance: 26cmHeight to top of headboard: 101cmOver-all Height – to the top of the headboard legs: 103cm
In the image here you can see the Camden with a (lower) Carnaby bed. The Carnaby headboard panel is the same height as a Camden, but the legs are shorter – H 26.5cm. Over-all height – 90.5cmThe Pimlico legs are the same as the Carnaby, but the headboard panel is also shorter. The over-all height of a Pimlico is 77.5cm.
The Hoxton has the same dimensions as a Camden, but with a chevron headboard panel. This detail can be incorporated in a Carnaby or Pimlico bed – just contact us for a quote.
If you are looking for a similar bed, but with a taller headboard – take a look at the Chiswick and Highbury beds. These beds have a slightly different design which allows for a taller headboard panel. If you would prefer an upholstered headboard – take a look at our Carlisle and Bloomsbury designs.
