If ‘Rustic Luxe’ sounds like a contradiction in terms – or just has you thinking ‘glamping’ – think again! This interior design trend combines beautiful natural materials. For example, stone floors and exposed wooden beams, combined with luxury bedroom furniture. Or, it can also include industrial touches, such as bare brick walls or a polished concrete floor, with luxurious accessories. A rustic bedroom with a luxury feel doesn’t have to cost the earth, and it can look a million dollars!
You don’t have to live in a country cottage or converted barn to choose this look. An exposed brick wall in an modern urban loft or traditional house can work just as well as a back-drop. Firstly, select the style of ‘rustic’ you are looking for based on your style of home and the space you have available. Here are some of our suggestions;
This space will look great with a bright, cool colour scheme. If your floorboards are in good enough condition take up the carpet and paint them white, this is a lovely, easy way to achieve a rustic look. Once painted, soften with a vintage rug or cow-hide. Paint the majority of the room a chalky shade of off-white or a pale neutral tone. We love Farrow & Ball or Little Green for a great paint selection. Next, add a feature wall in a dark colour – inky blue, black or deep chocolate brown are good options. You may prefer to clad the feature wall with timber or expose the natural brick or stone of the wall. But, don’t forget – you can now easily fake this look with wallpaper if you prefer!
This space is perfect for this look – you’re already half-way there! The original features, left unpainted and exposed will look fantastic with solid wood bedroom furniture and luxury fabrics (our washed linen bedding is a great choice). Modern bedroom furniture will make an interesting contrast with the space and prevent the bedroom from looking cluttered or too ‘themed’.

It’s important to soften an industrial space with cosy, luxury bedding. The industrial heritage can be reflected in vintage lighting and accessories. Try adding a classic tubular metal and leather chair (such as a Wassily chair or a Le Corbusier armchair) it will make a nod to the history of the space and a stunning design statement.
This style can still look fantastic in a space devoid of ‘authentic’ rustic/industrial touches. A subtle version of this style will add some personality to a classic bedroom. A vintage blanket box, an anglepoise bedside lamp and a chunky solid wood bed may be all you need. Keep your colour palette neutral with accents in black, charcoal or indigo for a classic look that will stand the test of time.

The grain of the timber will work beautifully with Rustic Luxe decor, whether a simple solid pine Sahara with a white wash finish (for a bright county feel) or a chunky solid oak Shetland bed (for a more urban-luxe take on this style) – there is a bed to suit your taste. The more ‘distressed’ the setting the more fabulous the luxury furniture and bedding will look, the contrast providing drama and personality to the room.
Natural in terms of the colour palette and the materials used should guide your bedding selections. Soft crumpled linen bedding is the ultimate luxurious choice (our linen bedding in white or dove grey would be ideal) along with soft Alpaca throws or cosy bedspreads. The mix of hard industrial architectural details and soft, luxurious fabrics will look wonderful!
