The Arran Bed is the latest addition to our collection of bed designs, exclusively made by Natural Bed Company. The Arran, like the rest of our beds, is made entirely in Sheffield by our team of talented woodworkers and makes use of the skills and experience of a local master upholsterer.
The Arran is a modern twist on a classic style. The solid hardwood frame (shown here in solid walnut) has clean and contemporary lines, while the buttoned headboard design is a simplified and slender version of a classic buttoned headboard. Comfortable, padding is complemented with larger than traditional buttons, each handmade by our upholsterer. A king-size bed, as shown here, incorporates 9 buttons in total. The number of buttons will vary slightly depending on the width of the bed. The button pattern hints at a classic English style while retaining a contemporary lack of fussiness.
The Arran bed joins our Shetland upholstered bed – to create a mini collection of solid wood beds with upholstered headboards. Both bed designs utilise the years of expertise of local craftsman – Fred – from Mews Upholstery. Fred started learning his craft straight out of school at the age of 15. He’s now been working in the trade for 51 years having his own upholstery business for 31 years. He is an expert in restoration and has taken on many unusual jobs over the years – from antiques to coffins! However Fred very much enjoys participating in the design process with Natural Bed Company, creating prototypes and upholstering the finished headboards that complete the Shetland and Arran beds.
The Arran bed has been created to satisfy the needs of customers looking for the warmth and comfort of an upholstered headboard, but with a compact footprint similar to our Sahara and Malabar beds. An Arran bed in a UK King-size (to accommodate a 150 x 200cm mattress) is only 150cm in width and only 205cm in length. So if space is an issue the Arran is the perfect choice! The top of the Arran headboard is 98cm in height, while the slat base sits 30cm from the ground. Like all our beds the Arran comes with sprung beech slats as standard, but we can provide fixed pine slats if you prefer a firmer feel – just discuss your requirements with our sales team when you order.
The Arran bed is shown above with our ‘Original’ Cube bedside table also in solid walnut. The Arran bed frame is available in any of our hardwood timbers: oak, ash, maple, beech, cherry or walnut. The frame is shown above finished in our new ‘Natural’ lacquer finish, the frame can also be ordered with the previous Clear lacquer (which results in a warmer colour) or in matte oiled oak to match the Ethnicraft furniture collection.
