In this blog we’ll take a look at the Camden bed range. These beautiful, hardwood beds have elegant proportions and mid-century look curves. The range includes (of course) The Camden bed, along with the Pimlico, the Carnaby, The Bloomsbury, the Hoxton bed and the new Special Edition Walnut Hoxton.
The Camden Bed
The Camden bed was designed first in the collection. A classic, mid-century looking bed with a tall headboard panel and mid-height legs. The gently tapering legs attach to the front and side rails with a soft curve. The headboard panel sits within tapering, softly curved posts.Dimensions:overall length: 208cm for a 200cm long mattress; 198cm for a 190cm long mattress.overall width: same as the nominal size, e.g. a Camden bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideheight to top of bed slats: 35cmunder-bed clearance: 27cmheight to top of headboard: 98cmheight to the top of the headboard legs: 100cm
The Carnaby Bed
The Carnaby was designed for customers who loved the Camden, but wanted a lower height bed. This may be to sit under eaves or a window – or just beacause they prefer the look and feel of a lower bed base. The Carnaby has the same headboard dimensions as the Camden bed, but with shorter legs.Dimensions:overall length: 208cm for a 200cm long mattress; 198cm for a 190cm long mattress.overall width: same width as the nominal size, e.g. a Carnaby bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideheight to top of side rail: 24cmunder-bed clearance: 14.5cmheight to top of headboard: 86cmheight to the top of the headboard legs: 88cm
The Pimlico Bed
The Pimlico is the next stage in the evolution of the Camden range. This model has the lower legs of the Carnaby with a lower headboard panel. This bed has a more contemporary feel than the Camden, but still has the soft edges and curved details of the original. The lower legs and headboard makes it perfect for bedrooms with a lower ceiling height – such as attic or basement bedrooms.Dimensions:overall length: 208cm for a 200cm long mattress; 198cm for a 190cm long mattress.overall width: same as the nominal size, i.e. a Pimlico bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideheight to top of side rail: 24cmunder-bed clearance: 15cmheight to top of headboard: 72.5cmheight to the top of the headboard legs: 74.5cm
The Hoxton Bed
My favourite! The Hoxton has the elegant frame of the Camden bed, but with a beautiful headboard made up of slim panels of timber in a chevron pattern. This bed looks fabulous in timbers with a vibrant grain: walnut, cherry, oak or ash for example. Dimensions:overall length: 208cm for a 200cm long mattress; 198cm for a 190cm long mattress.overall width: same as the nominal size, e.g. a Hoxton bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideheight to top of bed slats: 35cmunder-bed clearance: 27cmheight to top of headboard: 98cmheight to the top of the headboard legs: 100cm
The Bloomsbury Bed
Love the tapered legs of the Camden, but prefer a cosy upholstered headboard? Then the Bloomsbury is for you! It has the elegant frame that typifies this collection, but with a tall, buttoned headboard. The headboard is upholstered in Parquet fabric (pure wool with a basketweave pattern) or in Amatheon fabric (a wool blend fabric with a subtle marl). Dimensions:overall length: 207cm for 200cm long mattress; 197cm for 190cm long mattress sizes.overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Bloomsbury is 150cm wideheight to top of bed slats: 38.5cmunder-bed clearance: 27cmheight to top of headboard: 109cm
The Special Edition Hoxton Bed
This bed is a real show-stopper. It’s the same shape and proportions as the Hoxton bed, but the chevron pattern to the headboard panel is highlighted with a contrast timber. The contrast detail, has also been applied to the side rails and foot rail. The Special Edition Hoxton is made of solid walnut, but the contrast detail is available in a range of timbers: oak, ash, cherry, beech or (as shown here) solid maple wood.Dimensions:overall length: 208cm for a 200cm long mattress; 198cm for a 190cm long mattress.overall width: same as the nominal size, e.g. a Hoxton bed that accommodates a 150 x 200cm mattress is 150cm wideheight to top of bed slats: 35cmunder-bed clearance: 27cmheight to top of headboard: 98cmheight to the top of the headboard legs: 100cm
Bedside Tables
Looking for a bedside table to suit this collection of beds? We have designed the Camden table for just this purpose. The Camden table has a simple top with curved corners, with the same curved and tapering legs of the Camden bed. If you are looking for a bedside table with some storage space then we recommend the Spindle bedside tables. These are available in oak or walnut. The Spindle has a glass top shelf and a lower solid wood drawer.
