Scandi style is a huge inspiration to us here at Natural Bed Company. We take inspiration not only from the design ideals, but also the ethics of this style, as we use natural materials – specifically sustainable timbers – to make our bed bases. The Scandinavian aesthetic makes excellent use of clean lines, statement pieces and contrasting colour schemes. We make a range of Scandinavian style bed designs that would suit this look down to the ground. Read on to learn all about our favourites…

Leith

The most recent design from this selection, the Leith boasts a unique, striking design amongst our range. Its trademark features include the horizontal slats joining the legs at the head and foot end of the bed, its shadow box headboard and matching footboard. The Leith has been a firm favourite since its conception in 2022, and it’s the perfect model to show off our range of hardwoods.

We also introduced the Special Edition Leith last year, which takes the design one step further with the addition of a striped headboard panel. Choose your favourite combination of timbers for both the bed and the stripes within the headboard to create your own bespoke look.

Malabar

One of our earliest designs, the Malabar is a true classic. With timelessness at its heart, the Malabar boasts a compact footprint and a no fuss design, but is the perfect canvas for displaying your favourite of our timbers. In true Scandinavian fashion, it elevates functionality and simplicity, crafted from durable and beautiful natural materials. Scandi style is all about bringing the outside in and creating a harmonious space. The Malabar offers endless opportunities for this. Plus, its minimal style means you can style it just how you like.

If you like the Malabar, but would prefer a shorter headboard, you can also find the same design in the form of our Sahara bed. Similar not only in design but also in age, the Sahara has been with us since Natural Bed Company first started!

Sonora

Scandinavian style beds already offer a modern look, both in their aesthetic and their ideals. But, low Scandinavian style beds only further enhance this look. Beginning to verge on the much loved Japandi trend, our low beds such as the Sonora bring the best of both worlds. With a low profile and yet retaining a large, statement headboard, the Sonora puts your choice of timber on full display, but keeps its feet on the ground with a low base and chunky legs.

Like the Sonora but prefer a smaller headboard? Take a look at the original Nevada bed base; the same frame but with a much slimmer, minimal headboard panel. The Nevada looks its best with a slim mattress to best show off the slimline headboard – we recommend the Sonora if you want to achieve this look but have a deeper mattress.

Bamford

Our chunkiest bed design, the Bamford is the perfect platform for showing off the grain patterns and differing tones found in our timbers. A wonderful way to appreciate the natural variations found in raw materials. Scandinavian makes use of natural colours as well as materials, and real timbers give real warmth to a space. Introducing neutral tones inspired by nature is a sure fire way to bring Scandi style into your bedroom. Try pairing ash or oak with pale clay or dusky blue tones, or match maple with deeper, more moody tones to create stark contrast.

The Bamford also has a sister design, the Hathersage. The same proportions, but with one of our signature chevron headboard panels, the Hathersage is a Bamford but with an extra something something.

Scandi Four Poster Beds

Always a luxurious choice, four poster beds bring elegance and grandeur to a space. If you’re looking for a Scandinavian style four post bed, our choices would be the Orchid, Kelham, Cube or Oasis beds.

Orchid/Kelam

The Orchid & Kelham beds are two of a kind. You’ll find throughout our range that we have an original design, and then a version with a chevron headboard (we just haven’t found a bed that it doesn’t suit!). The Orchid is the original design in this case, and the Kelham brings the chevron headboard. Both boast a classic, clean look with traditional proportions and a full canopy.

Cube

Like the Orchid but want a low bed? Look no further than the Cube. The Cube is the laid back version of the Orchid, with a low base and large headboard panel, it’s perfect for lazy Sunday mornings. This bed still retains the same height to the top of the canopy, making it feel extra tall and luxurious in situ.

Oasis

A unique design amongst our range, the Oasis brings a slightly different vibe. A more contemporary take on four poster beds, it has higher posts to the head-end of the bed, and slightly lower posts to the foot-end. This creates the illusion of a box within a box when viewing the bed from the front, and gives a dynamic look when seen from different angles. This modern take and large sections of timber makes this one of our favourite choices for a Scandinavian style four poster.

These Scandinavian style beds are amongst our most popular designs. The pared back look of this classic style will always be a firm favourite for us.
