We love using solid ash to make our beds and bedside tables – this timber has a stunning, vibrant grain and a noticable variety of tones within the light golden colour. These natural features of ash ensures that it’s the perfect base for a range of tinted finishes. After some experimentation, we are introducing two smoked lacquers we think work beautifully – one has a warm, chestnut hue, while the other has a cool, dark espresso brown quality.
Here we’ll take a look at these finishes on our popular Camden and Carnaby bed bases. We’ll also look our favourite bedside tables and bedding to work with these beds.

Warm Smoked Ash

This lacquer finish add a rich, warm chestnut brown tone to our solid ash. The lacquer darkens the bold, vibrant grain while it is slightly more sheer in apprearance over the lighter areas. The beauty of this finish is that it draws attention to every individual line and swirl of the grain. Each bed will be clearly unique, varying with the natural qualities of each section of timber.

Cool Smoked Ash

Here you can our Carnaby bed in solid ash with our Cool Smoked finish. This deep, dramatic finish darkens the grain to rich espresso brown, while the lighter areas take on a cool mocha tone.

We feel our Cool Smoked Ash beds suit a range of interiors and styles. I particularly like a modern neutral look as shown on the Carnaby below. Incorporate simple ecru bedding and black or dark brown bedside tables to complete this style.
For a more dramatic look seet the Carnaby bed here; shown with dark green bedding in a luxury cotton sateen with a bold vine pattern. Stunning!

As you can see from the images below – the cool smoked finish aslo works beautifully on our ash Camden bed. For a classic look we’ve paired it with muslin bedding with a subtle grey floral print. For a much more contemporary style the we used our Mulberry abstract print duvet set.

Natural Ash

Here you can see an example of our natural ash beds, here the solid ash has been finished with a clear lacquer. This lacquer doesn’t add colour to the timber, it protects the timber and brings out the natural tones within the wood.

Naturally Chocolate Brown – Solid Walnut

If you are looking for a beautiful timber that is naturally a rich chocolate brown colour – then don’t forget our solid walnut beds and bedroom furniture. With walnut the rich chocolate tone is not a surface, lacquered finish but due to the natural qualities of our American Black Walnut.

American Black Walnut has rich, deep mocha and chocolate tones and occasional areas of paler deep gold timber. As it ages walnut becomes lighter and warmer in colour.
