Can I Order A Bespoke Bed or Futon?

PLEASE NOTE – We are no longer making futon mattresses and this blog contains out of date information. What changes can be made to a Natural Bed Company bed or futon mattress?

Are you looking for a bespoke bed? As all our solid wooden beds are made to order we can be more accommodating than other companies. We are able to discuss alterations to our bed base designs based on your requirements.

Below you will find the most frequently asked questions on this topic, and our answers to them –

“I purchased my mattress elsewhere, can you make alterations to the design to accommodate it”?

The mattresses we offer range from 16cm to 24cm in depth. If you have decided on a sprung mattress for example, these can be anything up to 40cm deep! Therefore, to ensure that your beautiful wooden headboard is still visible above the mattress, we can lengthen the headboard legs to keep everything in proportion. Please note, there can be a charge for this, depending on the depth of your mattress.

If your existing mattress is a non-standard or European size, we can manufacture your bed to fit. Just get in touch with the exact mattress measurements and we will quote you a price.

“Can you add a footboard to the bed”?

On certain designs, such as the Tibet, Zanskar, Malabar and Senegal we have previously added foot-boards to the base at the request of customers. Simply add 15% to the overall cost of the standard design. If you are interested in making this alteration on another style of bed, just get in touch and we’ll advise what is possible. “Can you match the colour of my existing furniture on my Natural Bed Company bed?”

Colour matching to another timber or stain is most successfully done on pine. If you can send us a picture of the colour you wish to match, our lacquering department will create some samples we can send out to you. If we are successful with matching the stain, we can then process your order and put the bed into production. Staining hardwoods can be trickier, but not impossible. We can never guarantee a perfect match, but we’re more than happy to give it a go!

“I need a custom size futon mattress. Can this be done?”

In the past we’ve made futon mattresses for boats (lots of funny angles there!), for non-standard size beds and lots of other things in between. If you let us know the measurements of the mattress you require, we’ll find out if it’s possible to make!
