We know we can’t rely on the British weather for a glorious summer! However, we can make our bedrooms a bright, fresh and summery space. We can take inspiration from our holiday destinations and bring some of that luxury hotel style into our homes. We share how in this post; making use of simple stylish bedding and furniture.

I’ve been taken with Scandinavian bedroom style this summer. Inspiring images of ‘Scandi-Chic’ living are all over Pinterest this season! And it just so happens that we have lots of furniture and accessories perfect for this look.

White & Bright

A fresh white bedroom is a great choice for making the most of those sunny, summer days. It is also a good back-drop for contemporary, Scandinavian furniture and accessories. If you like an all-white look and want a white bed – we make a wide range of solid woods beds, that can have an opaque white finish. We suggest opting for beech if you want to order the bed with a solid lacquer finish. This is due to beech’s very subtle grain. You may even want to choose an MDF panel for the headboard to keep the finish as ‘flat’ as possible.

Alternatively, you can soften the look and choose a ‘white-wash’ finish. This adds a subtle pale/cooling hue to any of our timbers, while allowing the grain to show through. If you want to still see a vibrant grain, try white-wash over Ash or Pine. Or, if you want a subtle look – try white-wash over Maple.

Personally, I like the mix of warm timber colours with cool white bedding and walls. Take a look at the Zanskar and Cube beds above in oak and the Nevada bed in natural ash. Complete the scheme with simple oak bedroom furniture.

The Cube bedside tables and Black Lotus Cube Collection of bedroom storage have a minimalist, Scandinavian style. Characterised by no handles and a simple, rectilinear design. The Damian side table from Wireworks has an oak frame and is available with a white top. Another modern choice suitable for this look.

For fresh white bedding, we have lots of options to choose from. Soft 1000 Thread Count Cotton bedding, the Stockholm diamond pattern bedspread or white washed linen bedding, amongst others. For a Scandinavian look keep the bedding simple – just add a cosy wool throw for cooler nights.

Cool Blues

If you prefer ‘cool and restful’ to ‘bright and sunny’ a soft, pale blue theme may be your preference. Pale blue – from duck-egg blue to lilac – is a calming colour, ideal to encourage a good nights sleep. It also works well with blonde wood – from pale sanded pine to golden ash or oak. Take a look at our collection of solid oak bedroom furniture from Ethnicraft, including drawer units, dressing tables and bedside tables, for modern, timeless designs.

We have a wide range of blue bedding available. For modern cool, try our Hira duvet and pillowcases or washed linen bedding in duck-egg blue. Then, add a bedspread! We suggest the pale blue Ripple Quilt, Shanti Quilt in indigo or pale grey, or the classic quilted bedspread in aqua. The Maine rug in blue mist is the perfect finishing touch.

Monochrome Chic

Our Pinterest board – Scandinavian Style is full of monochrome bedrooms, take a look and you’re sure to be inspired. From the bold, graphic black and white look to soft, calming bedrooms in a range of soothing greys – monochrome has a lot to offer. If you’re looking for a black bed, take a look at our Malabar bed or Orchid 4 poster. These are all shown in solid oak with a black lacquer finish. Any of our solid wood beds can have this finish, just contact us to order.

For a softer look, try the Shetland or Arran beds. Both options look lovely in natural wood with an upholstered headboard in grey. Or, combine natural timber beds with monochrome bedding – as we have with the Malabar and Nevada beds below.

We have a huge range of luxury cotton bedding in white, silver or dark grey in a variety of textures. Fine 230 thread count Egyptian cotton bedding in white or silver with a sateen stripe is a popular option. Or, 400 thread count plain Egyptian cotton in white, pale grey or dark smoke grey is another favourite. The Luxury 1000 thread count cotton bedding in white or dark platinum is the height of luxury – just select the shade and fabric weight to suit you.

For a relaxed, slightly ‘boho’ look we have washed linen bedding in white, charcoal or dove grey. Or, see the Cloud Grey embroidered Egyptian cotton bedding. For that ‘hotel chic’ look we suggest the Hotel Collection of white bedding with an embroidered double stripe in silver grey.

Bright & Bold

Scandinavian style isn’t generally associated with bold colours. But if your bedroom needs an injection of colour (maybe to make up for a lack of sunshine!) we have a range of bright, coloured bedding with the style credentials to fit in with a Nordic chic bedroom.

Warm burnt orange, coral and berry colours have proven popular this year. The Ashland duvet cover and pillowcases have an over-sized, modern print in salmon over an ivory ground, pair this bedding with the light-weight Shanti quilt also in salmon, or the Juno quilt in white with a chain-stitch detail in coral, navy and grey. For a luxurious, but relaxed look try our coral washed linen bedding – complete the look with a contemporary Bronte wool throw.
