We’ve offered a range of painted beds for a few years now here at Natural Bed Company, but in the last few weeks we’ve seen a big increase in both interest in and orders of these bases. They offer the perfect blend of a beautiful hardwood timber to create a focal point in the room and a large panel of colour in the headboard to compliment existing furnishings and painted walls.

With that in mind, now seems like a good time to take a look at the beds in our range available with a painted headboard (the Sol, Tao and Koo) and give information on your options if you are interested in a fully painted or stained bed base.

The Sol (above) and Tao (below) bed designs are based on the popular, solid timber, Sahara and Tibet beds respectively and are available as standard with bed bases in solid oak or walnut (although if you required the bed in any other of our hardwood timbers, it would not be a problem to achieve this- just give us a call or send us an email and we’ll work out a quote for you). The headboard panel of the Sol or Tao is made from MDF and this is lacquered the colour of your choice. (N.B. There are no health concerns with our MDF: we use only Medite Ecologique zero formaldehyde MDF).

We recommend that you look at the colour ranges from Farrow & Ball, RAL and Pantone as we can source all colour options these manufacturers offer and between them I don’t think that there’s a tone or shade of any colour they’ve missed! We simply require the colour name or reference number and can then match this to the lacquer mixed specially for your headboard.

The third bed option on offer with a painted headboard is the Koo (below),based on the Kulu, our popular low platform bed. The large headboard panel, 175cm wide on a standard king size base, offers the opportunity to make a statement with a bold block of colour.

If you are interested in the idea of a painted headboard but would like to go one step further and have the whole bed as one solid block of colour, we can help. We recommend bed is constructed from beech and can paint almost any bed in the range (please contact our sales team on 0114 272 1984 to check and get a quote). We use beech as the tight, dense grain of this timber is far less likely to result cracks in the painted finish than some other hardwoods, it also results in a smooth, opaque finish – you almost won’t be able to see the grain.
In the last couple of months we have made painted beech versions of our Oasis four poster, the Tibet and the Cochin, meaning that we are confident we can produce a painted base to fit in with any colour and design scheme. As with the painted headboard beds, simply pick any RAL, Farrow & Ball or Pantone colour and we will do the rest.

If you would like a bed with a coloured finish to the whole bed base, but would still like to see the grain of the timber – take a look at our ‘stained lacquer’ options – we offer antique pine, white-wash and wenge (a dark chocolate brown) as standard, but often use an almost opaque black finish and offer other options on request. We can offer a stain finish on any of our timbers and every bed that has a lacquered option.

If you feel sure that you want one of our painted or stained bed bases, but just can’t decide on the colour, keep in mind that the lacquering process is the last step your bed will go through before it’s sent out. You could order the bed base and secure a 6 week lead time, carry on the search and let us know (ideally no more than) 2 weeks before your estimated despatch date. This way, you get a date for your diary for when your bed will be ready and a couple more weeks to scour the colour charts to find the perfect tone to match your bedroom design.

We do not currently have a painted headboard bed on display at our Sheffield showroom, but we do have an Orchid bed in solid oak with an all over opaque black stain finish to the bed (see details here) and we have samples of the majority of stain options for you to look at.

Please do contact us, or pop in to our Sheffield showroom to discuss your requirements.
