In this blog we take a look at the the Nevada collection of modern wooden beds. A range of contemporary, solid timber beds in a range of sizes, timbers and proportions. The range was born out of the Nevada bed design – a timeless, unfussy low bed with a low headboard – perfect for loft spaces. From that came the Sonora bed – just like the Nevada – but with a much taller headboard panel which shows of the beauty of the solid wood chosen.

Then, to satisfy customers looking for a higher bed – the Sahara and Malabar beds were developed. They have the same clean lines, but are taller – meaning the mattress sits higher from the ground. For the customer looking for a chunkier version of these beds – the Tibet bed was produced, using thicker sections of timber for the legs with a generous headboard panel.

Here we’ll look at all of the beds in the collection in detail, and how they can be further tailored to suit your needs.

The Nevada Low Bed

The Nevada bed is perfect for attic bedrooms, due to it’s low height, and is a good option for smaller bedrooms as it has such a compact foot-print. The Nevada is available in any of our timber options: solid pine, beech, ash, maple, cherry, oak or walnut. If you need, adjustments can be made to the design – for example: the position of the headboard panel can be raised by using taller headboard posts, a taller headboard panel can be made (but you may just want to take a look at the Sonora!) or we can remove the headboard completely, or even create a Nevada with a headboard and footboard.

Nevada bed dimensions:
overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattresses (generally used for king-size beds or above)
195cm for 190cm long mattresses (usually for double beds or smaller)
overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm King-size Nevada is 150cm wide
height to top of bed slats: 17cm
under-bed clearance: 9cm
height to top of headboard: 55cm

The Sonora Bed

If you have a loft space but really want to make a feature of your solid wood headboard – take a look at the Sonora bed. The headboard panel is an extra 18cm in depth and really shows off the beauty of the solid timber. Again, as each bed is made to order, adjustments can be made to the design. Just give our sales team a call to discuss your requirements.

Sonora bed dimensions:
overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattresses (generally used for king-size beds or above)
195cm for 190cm long mattresses (usually for double beds or smaller)
overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Sonora is 150cm wide
height to top of bed slats: 17cm
under-bed clearance: 9cm
height to top of headboard: 73cm

The Sahara Bed

The Sahara bed is a modern, mid-height bed. The height to the top of the bed slats/side rails is 30cm – so when you add a 16-20cm deep mattress this takes the top of the mattress to the same height as a standard dining chair. Very comfortable for getting up from! The Sahara has a lower headboard depth of around 19cm, so the overall height is just 77cm – great to give a sense of space in bedrooms with a lower ceiling height. If you like to pile up your pillows, try the Malabar bed.
Like the Nevada and Sonora, the Sahara can be tailored to suit your needs – including non-standard finishes and lacquers, below you can see the Sahara with an opaque white lacquer finish. Just contact us to find out more.

Sahara bed dimensions:
overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattresses (generally used for king-size beds or above)
195cm for 190cm long mattresses (usually for double beds or smaller)
overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Sahara is 150cm wide.
height to top of bed slats: 30cm

The Malabar Bed

The Malabar bed is similar in proportion to the Sahara bed but with a taller headboard panel (approximately 43cm in depth). The Malabar bed’s tall headboard supports lots of pillows and cushions, and still shows off your favourite wood grain. It is a popular, medium height bed and a timeless design.
What is the difference between the Malabar and the Tibet? The Tibet is 8cm higher to the top of the slats and it has chunkier legs; while the Malabar has a taller headboard panel, but a slightly lower over-all height.

Malabar bed dimensions:
overall length: 205cm for 200cm long mattress; 195cm for 190cm long mattress
overall width: same as nominal size, e.g. a 150cm Malabar is 150cm wide
height to top of bed slats: 30cm
under-bed clearance: 19cm (this allows you to add our Sahara under-bed drawers)
height to top of headboard: 91cm

The Tibet Bed

The Tibet bed is a real show-stopper, with tall chunky legs it’s the tallest bed in the Nevada collection. As you can see from the images below – the Tibet bed can be personalised in various ways – we’ve added a footboard for some customers and incorporated a decorative strip of a contrast timber across the headboard for others (the image below shows a maple Tibet with a zebrano stripe, cherry or walnut are also popular choices for a decorative band).

Tibet bed dimensions:
overall length: 207cm for 200cm long mattress; 197cm for 190cm long mattress sizes.
overall width: same as nominal size, eg a 150cm Tibet is 150cm wide
height to top of bed slats: 38cm
under-bed clearance: 27cm (so you can use our deeper Tibet under-bed drawers)
height to top of headboard: 94cm (the headboard panel is approximately 38cm in depth)
