Also called new retro or mid-century modern, the mid-century style is one of our favourite resurgences from recent years. It ties together the old with the new, and breathes new life into treasured trends. In this article, we feature some of our favourite mid-century bedside tables from our collection. Ideal pairings for our mid-century style beds; the Hoxton, Camden, Cochin and Dalston, or to add a splash of timeless style to an existing bedroom scheme.
As the name may suggest, these tables were originally designed to pair with our Camden collection. This collection encompasses the Camden, Hoxton, Pimlico, Carnaby & Bloomsbury beds. All feature the same trademark curves and delicate lines as the Camden tables.
Made specifically with the same leg design, the Camden tables match our Camden beds just beautifully. They’re also the definition of modern mid-century style, thanks to their curved lines and fine details. As these tables are handmade by us, you can choose from our full range of hardwoods. Opt for a darker timber such as cherry or walnut to really stay true to mid-century styling.
NEW: Our beloved Camden tables have recently received a much-requested update. You can now order the new Camden Drawer Tables! The same dimensions as our original Camden tables, but with the added convenience of a small storage drawer – ideal for keeping your bedside tidy.
In a similar vein to the Camden tables above, the Cochin table is another of our own designs. It boasts stylised legs to match the legs of the Cochin and Dalston beds. This iconic design is a real focal point for these models, and gives the beds and tables a whole heap of personality.
Those sold as bedside tables to pair with our beds, the Cochin tables also make for lovely side tables in the living room or lounge. Thanks to their subtle, slimline look, they add a spot of mid-century style to any room.
The Spindle bedside tables are ideal if you’re looking for something with lots of storage. Complete with a glass top, lower shelf and spacious drawer, the Spindle is a great option if you want to keep your bedroom tidy. They’re also quite wide for bedside tables, with a width of 55cm, further enhancing the storage capacity.
Coming to us from Ethnicraft, the Spindle bedside tables are available in either natural or black stained oak. Choose your favourite to match your bedroom colour scheme.
A one-of-a-kind for our collection, the Pi table is an Ethnicraft creation made from solid mahogany. A dark, deep brown timber with an almost black undertone, Pi is a beautiful, modern side table. Its delicate frame is crafted from slender, rounded sections to give it a sculptural look, and it appears slightly different depending on the angle it’s viewed from.
A smaller side table, Pi sits well with our low beds such as Carnaby or Pimlico (staples of mid-century style). It is also a great option as a plant stand or side table in the living room.
The Two Tone furniture range is a relative new-comer to our selection. The whole range boasts classic mid-century styling thanks to its finer details. Oak and veneers are finished with a warm, buttery finish to the main bulk, contrasted with a dark, almost walnut stain to the tops and handles. This, in addition to the rounded sides and curved edges, allows the furniture to hark back to classic 1970s style.
In terms of bedside tables, the Two Tone range has two to offer. Choose from the Round Oak Nightstand; complete with a round drawer and lower slatted shelf. Or, opt for the more traditional Three Drawer Bedside Chest if you need extra storage.
We couldn’t write a blog on mid-century bedside tables without including our very aptly named mid-century tables! A sculptural, modern example of this gorgeous style, the mid-century table is available in either an earth stain (brown, almost black) or a grey oil (walnut-like in appearance).
Mid-Century style is firmly planted in interior design trends at the moment. Though styles continue to change and evolve, we believe this style is one that is here to stay.
