We offer a wide range of hardwood timbers here at Natural Bed Company from the pale, subtle maple to the reddish tones and swirling grain found in cherry, but to my mind the stand-out choice is walnut. If you are trying to find a striking, dramatic looking timber, one that will ensure that your bed base is the clear focal point of the room, then look no further.

The deep chocolate brown notes of the wood, range from almost black to rich umber and deep gold. This, combined with a whirlpool effect in the grain, makes for a luxurious looking timber – one shown-off perfectly when paired with a base from our Classic Beds collection. The tall, imposing headboards of the Cochin, Zanskar, Samarkand, Orchid and Tibet beds are ideal designs to highlight the opulent qualities of walnut on a large scale.

However, if you do not have the space required to fit the beds mentioned above, lower beds with a smaller overall footprint such as the Sonora – a low base with a tall headboard – or the Malabar, taller but with a compact footprint, would work equally well.

In recent years, as our collection of solid wood beds with upholstered headboards has grown to incorporate a range of designs from the simple, low Iona to the luxury 4 poster Highland, we have noticed how popular Walnut has proven to be when used as a contrast to a fabric headboard. Whether the neutral fabrics in the Tailor and Amatheon ranges or the patterned Parquet pure wool options, the combination of the walnut timber frame and upholstered create a look to suit any bedroom.

From the 2 drawer shaker and cube bedsides to the 5 drawer tallboy and 6 drawer chest, this collection offers something to pair with each of our beds. These items are batch produced to our designs by another company; if you see an item that is listed as out of stock, these aren’t gone forever, we place regular orders to replenish the range and you shouldn’t have to wait too long until they are available to order again. If you would like to reserve an item to ensure that you are at the front of the queue, just give us a call and you can secure any out of stock item with a 10% deposit.

The Cube collection of modern bedroom furniture also offers most of the designs in walnut as well as oak. The contemporary simplicity of this range works well with our more modern low walnut beds, such as the Oregon, Kyoto and Sahara beds. Like the Shaker range the Cube walnut furniture can be bought from stock, or ordered and reserved from our next shipment.

We always have a range of timbers on display in our Sheffield showroom. Solid walnut is a more popular choice than most – currently we have the Oregon, Highland, Arran and Samarkand beds available to see in this timber, along with the majority of the Black Lotus range, cube tables and the Panama sofa bed in walnut waiting for when you visit us. We do change the display beds occasionally so each bed listed above may not always be available to view, but its safe to say we are all fans of walnut here at the showroom so you don’t have to worry about not having a bed to see in solid walnut!
