Here at Natural Bed Company, being Eco-Friendly is very important to us, our customers and the planet! We’ve been busy looking into ways we can be more environmentally friendly – like using biodegradable post bags, cardboard bubble wrap for small fragile items and, of course, making Organic, Eco-Friendly and Vegan products more readily available to you!
In this post I’ll go through a few of our favourite simple options to help you achieve a more natural lifestyle!
Firstly, our speciality and passion lays with solid wood bed bases (of course)! Each one of our beds are hand made to order in our Sheffield workshop with sustainably sourced timber and never endangered tropical hardwoods. Every piece of wood is cut from forrests in Scandinavia, North East America and Northern Europe, where the careful managements of these sites are encouraging the forrest to actually grow in size!
So not only do the beds look beautiful, they are Eco-Friendly and will last a lifetime! To see more information on this topic, please see the Our Timbers section of our website.
We carry a range of chemical free sprung mattresses in a variety of firmness options and fillings, meaning there is an option to suit everyone! The Weldbank range is filled cotton and the Westgate range is filled with Wool.
The are 7 mattresses that use an exclusive, pure and natural, biological Fire Retardant so they pass all UK fire regulations without the need for additional chemicals. This Bio-based compound is a product from the dairy industry so is non-toxic, biodegradable and 100% sustainable. It is perfect for those of us who wish to live as ethically and naturally as possible, and for those with strong allergies or chemical sensitivities, or maybe you just want a really comfy bed!
We also offer a range of organic sprung mattresses. Beautifully made mattresses in a range of spring counts – 1500 springs, 3000 springs or the luxury organic mattress with 5500 springs. Naturally chemical free and made using predominantly organic materials including organic wool, cotton and flax with organic ticking.
One of our ever popular bedding choices has been the Organic Cotton Bedding – Rest soundly knowing that it is not only responsibly made and fairly traded but also chemical, bleach and dye free. We expanded this line with the Finest Sateen Organic Cotton Bedding, a fine weave, it’s soft, silky and is incredibly smooth to the touch. The thread count is approximately 290, but feels even higher! We also have the every organic cotton in Ivory and Brown melange for a simple and cosy look.
Looking for something extra luxurious? Check out our range of Organic Linen Bedding, this 100% natural linen bedding is pre-washed, softening the fibres for a relaxed, informal look. Linen fibres are both hypoallergenic and anti-bacterial. Made from European Flax, this linen bedding has natural heat-regulating qualities which make it breathable and cool on a hot day and warm on colder nights
New to our range is the bamboo bedding, available in a classic White or pale silver grey. Bamboo is a soft, durable fabric that has a natural resistance to insects and disease and so fewer pesticides are needed in its production. Bamboo bedding is also is a skin-friendly fabric with natural hypo-allergenic and antibacterial properties.
Of course, all the pure cotton, linen and bamboo bedding mentioned above are vegan. When it comes to pillows and duvets we also carry a range of options that contain no animal products!
The Botanic – the Vegan Duvet being the obvious choice. This sustainable duvet is made entirely with ethically sourced plant based materials, these fibres are made using a process that has won ECO awards for low environmental impact. It is also registered by the Vegan society and carries the Vegan trademark.
We also carry a variety of bedding made with certified organic cotton casings and a range of fillings to suit different preferences! The Organic Cotton Duvet is a firm favourite among staff and customers. This lightweight and luxurious duvet is GOTS and Soil Association certified. The ideal duvet for people who want to sleep in natural materials, but are not too keen on animal fibres. The Organic Cotton & Kapok Filled Duvet is perfect for those who like a slightly thicker and fluffier feeling – Kapok is also known as ‘plant-down’ due to its silky, fly-away quality. You can also find the same quality plant fibres in the Tencel Filled Pillow.
