How you can tailor a Natural Bed Company bed to perfectly suit your needs…

We understand that there are times when you need a custom made bed. It may be that you require a particularly low bed for an attic space, that you bought your mattress abroad and it’s not a standard UK size, or maybe you want to disguise a divan base with a wooden frame. Just get in touch! We’ll always help if we can.

Taller, shorter, wider?

As standard, we offer the following sizes;

  • Small single – accommodates a mattress 75cm wide x190cm in length
  • Standard single – bed size accommodates a mattress 90cm wide x190cm in length
  • Three-quarter – sometimes called a small double, this size accommodates a mattress 120cm wide x190cm in length
  • Double – accommodates a mattress 135cm wide x190cm in length, however some double mattresses can be 200cm in length so we always recommend measuring your mattress to be sure. Old imperial sizing can vary a little too as they are based on sizing in inches – again measure your mattress to be sure, we can make you a bed to fit!
  • Kingsize – accommodates a mattress 150cm wide x 200cm in length
  • Superking – accommodates a mattress 180cm wide x 200cm in length

However, we can offer special sizes on request….

Maybe you have a US or Continental size mattress – we can adjust our beds to accommodate your mattress size. Maybe you have a particular size of room space available and need a narrower or shorter bed to fit? We can make the bed and a futon mattress to fit, just be aware that you may find it tricky to get bedding to match!
Super sized beds for those lucky few with very large bedrooms are also possible. Just tell us what you’re looking for and ask for a price quotation. We are always happy to help.

Our bedside tables can be adjusted in terms of proportions and/or dimensions. Do let us know what you are looking for and we’ll let you know if it’s possible and provide you with a price quotation. Our Cochin bedside tables were recently made in a special size for a customer looking for tall bedside tables. Take a look at the image below….

Ensure your mattress fits perfectly….

It may be that you have a mattress that is particularly deep or unusually slim. Our beds are designed to accommodate the mattresses we sell which are approximately 20cm in depth. However, we can extend the headboard legs and raise up the position of the headboard panel to allow for a much deeper mattress. The last thing we want is for your beautiful timber headboard to be completely hidden behind your mattress and pillows! Similarly we can ensure that your headboard sits at a lower position than is standard if your mattress is slimmer.

The headboard option…

Many beds are available with or without a headboard as standard. These models include the Kyoto (shown without a headboard, in solid oak above), Kumo (shown with a headboard in wenge stained pine above) and Kobe. We can offer many of our other models without a headboard if asked. In order to get an idea of the price of a bed without a headboard as a good guide take 15% off the price which includes a headboard.

We recently supplied a number of our Sahara beds without headboards to a boutique hotel in Brighton. They intend to attach a headboard panel direct to the wall and wanted a simple, well made bed base to match. The Sahara was a perfect choice.

Those wanting a bed for an attic space may need a bed with a low headboard, or without a headboard in order to fit the end of the bed under low eaves, or just to look ‘in proportion’ with a room with a low ceiling. Maybe access to the room is an issue? Just let us know what you need and we’ll do our best to find a solution.
Alternatively you may want a taller headboard than our usual design, let us know the dimensions you are looking for and, if we can do it, we’ll get back to you with a quote.

Looking a bed with a footboard?

Don’t be afraid to ask! If there is a design you like, but you would prefer it with a footboard we can usually supply it. Take a look at our Tibet bed above – with and without a footboard, it’s a design that works well either way.  Our Zanskar bed also looks equally good with a footboard – just see below.

The CHOOSE YOUR COLOUR collection allows you to pick the colour of the headboard – the range of colours is limitless! Whether you want to match the colour to a paint colour, wall-paper or upholstery choices, or want to select your favourite colour by pantone or RAL reference, just let us know. The bed frame is in solid timber (we offer oak or walnut as standard, but other timbers can be requested) the headboard panel is a solid board lacquered in your colour choice.

The Shetland bed is a new design – a solid timber frame with an upholstered headboard. We offer a range of fabric colours as standard, but we can usually work with your fabric if you have a particular material in mind. Plain fabrics with the necessary fire retardancy certification supplied will attract no extra charge. If you want to supply a patterned fabric we will need a swatch to confirm the fabric quantity required.

      We can make any of our existing bed base designs to your requested dimensions of 143x199cm. Are you after a complete new bed base? or just a base to fit inside your existing frame?

      That wouldn’t be a problem. We could make any of our designs to those dimensions. As the size you require works out as 119x188cm, we would charge the same as our standard three-quarter size (120x190cm). These prices are listed online, however if you need me to get a price for you just let me know.

  5. Dear Sirs

    I have a french bed with head board and foot board and need to replace the mattress and if possible the bed base that fits on slats.
    The mattress needed is 158 cms wide x 197cms long x 19 cms thick. If possible I would like it covered in black/white or grey white cotton ticking.

  6. Hi, are you able to make a small double bed, external frame length 190cm with storage underneath? How much would this cost?

      Thank you for your enquiry.
      As all of our beds are made to order, it is possible to make almost any of our beds without a headboard to make the external frame length 190cm.

      While it is possible for us to make our beds to almost any size, and 200x190cm is within that range, unfortunately we cannot adapt our designs to the ottoman style bed.   8. I need a wooden bed, tall enough to get storage underneath, 5′ in width, 7′ in length. Plus mattress to fit. I’d like sprung slats too. It’s neither a king nor a super king. 6’6 isn’t long enough,but I don’t want anything wider than 5′. Is this doable?

      Yes we can made a bed to these dimensions! Most of our bed designs (excluding the low beds) are tall enough for under-bed storage.
      I have sent you an email explaining which mattresses can be made to custom sizes, if you would like to look through these and let me know which one you would be interested in I can get a quote from our mattress supplier. If you would also like to look through our designs and let me know which ones you are interested in, including timber choice, then I can get a full quote together for you.
      All of our bed bases come with Beech Sprung slats as standard.

  9. Hello, we are looking for a white wooden bed 4ft 6 width length 190cm which can accomadate a 180cm length mattress, is this something you have?

      As each of our beds are made to order we can make most of our beds to any size!
      Am I correct in thinking that your mattress size is around 135x180cm but the space available for the bed is 190cm in length? Most of our designs sit flush with the mattress so are great for space saving.
      We can provide all of our beds in White painted Beech or most beds are available in White Wash Pine. If there are any particular designs you like, you can send us an email ([email protected]) or call us (01142721984) for a quote or to request timber samples to be sent out to you.

      As every bed is made to order, we can make them to any size so yes this is possible! Can I confirm that you mean you want a bed length that is 2inches shorter than 5ft (4ft 10inches which is around 147cm)?
