New to our exclusive bed collection is a select range of upholstered beds, which combine a solid, hard-wood bed frame with an upholstered headboard panel. These contemporary fabric beds are available in many sizes, in our full range of hardwood timbers and a wide range of fabric options. So you’re sure to find the perfect combination for your bedroom!
Here we’ll take a look at the designs available and the furniture and bedding to suit these beds…
The Shetland bed is a stylish, contemporary bed. This design has a simple padded headboard for extra comfort, framed by solid wood. The bed base is made of deep, but slender, sections of solid timber for a refined, yet substantial, look. For our photography we made a couple of versions of this bed, to illustrate how different it can look depending on the combination of timber, finish and fabric chosen.
For a classic look in neutrals, that will suit almost any scheme, we chose a solid oak frame with a natural finish and upholstered the headboard in ‘Tailor’ woven fabric in the colour Linen. For a more traditional look we have used a classic quilted bedspread over soft dove grey linen bedding. For a more modern look try upholstery in Wolf Grey Tailor or Amatheon fabrics and dress the bed with grey and white bedding.
The Shetland above has a headboard upholstered in Monance fabric – this fabric has a beautiful, large floral print. The tall, unbuttoned headboard is the perfect surface the show off a stunning fabric. We can use C.O.M (customer’s own material) is most cases – it must meet UK fire retardancy regulations and we like to have any C.O.M checked by our upholsterer to ensure the results are good. So if you have a fabric that you would like to use – just send us a sample and we’ll be able to let you know if it can be used and how much fabric to order for your bed.We have combined Monance with a bed frame in oak with a natural finish and with an oak frame stained black. The combination of black with the floral fabric results in a dramatic, romantic looking bed – perfect for a moody, subtly ‘Gothic’ look bedroom, whilst Monace with natural oak gives a much softer, relaxing look.
The Shetland can also be upholstered in our premium, pure wool fabrics – Parquet or Amsterdam.We have used our ‘Original’ Cube tables with the Shetland, the Cube range of Black Lotus furniture will also complement this design, along with the Three Drawer Shaker Style Bedside Tables (also from the Black Lotus collection).
The Arran is a stylish, contemporary bed with a classic buttoned and padded headboard. The solid wood frame has a compact foot-print – just like our Sahara and Malabar beds. Again the bed frame is available in our standard range of hardwoods – oak, walnut, beech, ash, cherry or maple. The frame is shown in most of the images here in solid walnut, the buttoned headboard is shown upholstered in Tailor fabric in the colour Wolf Grey. However, like all our upholstered beds, the Arran can also be ordered with the headboard covered in pure wool fabric Parquet (Parquet has a basketweave design and is available in a range of contemporary colours).
As you can see from the images above the Arran looks great will almost any bedding! We have tried a range of styles from the ‘contemporary luxe’ look of charcoal linen bedding with an Alpaca throw to the perfect festive look – combining simple white cotton bedding with a cosy, red and grey tartan throw.
Looking for a low bed with a padded headboard? The Iona is the perfect choice – a stylish, contemporary bed with a simple buttoned and padded headboard for comfort, with a very low solid wood bed base. The frame is made of solid hardwood timber and has a compact foot-print – just like our Sonora and Nevada beds, upon which the design is based.
Again the bed frame is available in our full range of hardwoods and plain fabrics. The buttoned headboard is photographed here upholstered in our Premium pure wool fabric – Parquet, in the colour Petrol with a solid oak base. The Iona has just a single row of buttons resulting a clean, contemporary look unusual for a buttoned headboard.
The Iona will work with any of our low bedside tables – the low Cube table, Madra nightstand or Oregon table for example – but we have shown it here with the Ethnicraft Ligna bedside cupboards. These cupboards are a great choice if you want to maximise storage space – they have a useful slimline drawer above a deep cupboard space.
The choice of bedding will depend in part on the fabric colour chosen for the headboard. The basketweave fabric here is a combination of ivory and teal coloured wool threads and so we have used pale duck-egg percale bedding with the Camino bedspread in Forest Green and a cosy Bronte in complementary tones.
Like the Arran, the Iona will look great with many bedroom styles, but the proportions of the bed make it particularly useful for attic bedrooms where a lower height bed can make a lost space look roomier.
The Skye is a stylish, contemporary bed with an extra tall buttoned and padded headboard – perfect for piling up your pillows against!
The Skye, just like our Tibet bed, has a chunky solid wood frame using a thicker section of timber than you find on the Arran and Iona. The bed frame is available in our full range of hardwoods, it is shown here in solid walnut. The tall buttoned headboard, with three rows of buttons, is shown upholstered in Amatheon fabric in the colour Wolf. Amatheon is a wool rich fabric with a felted appearance. Again the Skye can be ordered with a headboard covered in Parquet premium fabric.
The furniture we have used with the Skye in the images above is also in walnut – the bedside unit from the Black Lotus collection, the Frame dressing table and Osso stool are from our Ethnicraft range. We feel the Skye suits a wide variety of bedding styles, from a relaxed look using simple grey linen bedding or ruffled blue linen bedding, to a ‘hotel chic’ look using luxury 1000 thread count bedding for a crisp, almost masculine style.
Our beautiful Highland 4 poster bed is a cosy, luxurious four poster bed. It is made, like all our beds, to the highest standards from solid hardwood. The simple, unbuttoned headboard panel is again available upholstered in Tailor and Amatheon from Warwick, and premium fabric Parquet – woven by Moons in Yorkshire.
No need to worry about getting it upstairs – the flat pack design takes care of that, assembly is easy and the construction is rock solid.
The model photographed above (please click on these images to enlarge them) is made in solid cherry wood – a beautiful timber, with a multitude of subtle tones – from deep terracotta to hints of pale sage and cream. The headboard panel is upholstered in Amatheon, colour Linen – a warm take on a neutral shade that allows to timber to draw most of the attention.
The Highland 4 poster is a real showpiece bed – a stunning canopy bed that suits a bedroom with a high ceiling and plenty of space. With the tall posts and fabric covered headboard, it is also perfect for creating a cosy, intimate space within a larger room. Add a voile canopy over the upper rails to add a sense of romance (and privacy!) to your scheme. The headboard panel is beautifully finished, even to the back, so this bed can be used in the centre of a bedroom if desired.Again we’ve used the oak Ligna collection with this bed in he scheme above. However if you want bedside tables in a matching timber – take a look at the Cube bedside tables in ‘Original’ size or ‘Tall’. These tables, made in our Sheffield workshop, are available in all our timbers including cherry wood.
The new Bloomsbury bed is a combination of our mid-century look bed-frame (inspired by the Camden bed) and our upholstered collection. The Bloomsbury bed has a tall upholstered headboard with two rows of buttons. Available upholstered in a range of fabrics, this cosy padded headboard looks elegant paired with the shaped Camden leg base. Over-all the Bloomsbury has a fashionable, mid-century look.
A new version of the Bloomsbury with a faux leather headboard is now available. This version of the Bloomsbury has the same mid-century look bed frame in solid hardwood. The padded and upholstered headboard has a simple, central seam detail with double top stitch instead of the rows of buttons ususal to the Bloomsbury design.Available in our full range of hardwoods and in a range of faux leather colours – so you can make this bed your own!
